Welsh Girl Dies In Turkey Raft Accident

A Welsh schoolgirl has died in a rafting accident in southern Turkey, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

The girl died in an incident at Lake Koygeyiz, close to the region of Dalyan on Wednesday.

She has been named in the media as Cerys Potter from Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) are unable to confirm media reports that the girl was nine years old.

Another little boy is believed to have been injured in the same incident and is being treated in hospital.

An FCO spokesman said: "We can confirm that a British national died following a rafting accident in Koygeyiz, Turkey, on July 28, 2010.

"Consular staff are in touch with the family and providing consular assistance.

"The Turkish authorities are investigating the incident.
