"There are 150 people who claim to be victims of abuse at the Casa Cuna"

Antonio Toscano, with his association is helping those affected by the case Cuna. / DA
MARTA PLASENCIA
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE

Antonio Toscano has spent nearly two months in Tenerife with a team of psychologists and legal experts of the Association of Child Victims of Corruption (Avicsin), which presides investigating sexual abuse cases occurring in the Holy Family Home, now known as House Cuna, for five decades. For now, they have already made contact with 150 alleged victims association.

- What prompted you to create Avicsin and combat abuses and corruption of minors?

"When I worked as a correspondent in Colombia, accompanied by the FARC, I saw many injustices. They used children to cross mine fields and dig ditches, they were removed from their mothers with 10 years for killing dogs trained as assassins. But what really led me to act once and for all was to realize that in Panama, Mexico or in Colombia itself, the penalties for child exploitation offenses were harsh and yet, in Spain, they were not. I wanted that for my country, and then rode the NGOs. "

- Avicsin is also propelling the bill THESIS What is intended with this initiative?

"We want more protection for the child and harsher sentences for pedophiles, pedophiles and child pornography traffickers. I have passed certain points of law, but they are just patches of justice. Avicsin wants all aid to be given in cases of gender violence also apply to minors. For example, prosecutors and lawyers who have specialized in child abuse, foster homes for children and tougher penalties. Also, that such crimes do not prescribe ".

- Avicsin takes about 10 years fighting for the rights of minors and work on important cases of sexual abuse worldwide. How is this collaboration?

"Well, just call us. They know what we do is investigate and make things out so that police can do the best job possible, which indeed it does, but maybe there are small things that do not 'grab' it and what we do is pull the thread. Our work, after all, is to seek information and investigate the case thoroughly, and then take that information. "

- In fact, Avicsin worked in the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann ...

"Yes, and I was the first person to say that the girl always gave him sleeping pills, parents left her alone ... that's what we found out and everyone said it was a lie, which was shown after was true. And we also resign Alipio Ribeiro, head of the Judicial Police lusa and Commissioner Gonçalo Amaral, who had a criminal record behind him incredible. In fact, the team of Judicial Police also were involved in the case Pious House, where police, television presenters and prosecutors are accused of child sexual abuse. "

- Until you came, it seemed the Creche case would be in the dark. With the release of the four complaints, the defendant Julio Carrillo in freedom and the silence of the Cabildo of Tenerife, "Right now, as are the investigations?

"Today, 150 people have contacted us to tell who were victims of sexual abuse in the Holy Family Home, now Casa Cuna, under the City Council. That was and is a torture house. And let me tell you thing, there are a lot of silence around this. When you go to look at something or need additional information or to find someone, there is silence .... I have come to say that I'm opening doors did not open one. "

- What about the judicial process?

"Then in October we will present to the first set of complaints, about 20, to realize the prosecutor and the judge that this is not a joke. Complaints with documentation, weight, names and all data possible. This has happened, is there and there is documentation that proves it. culprits still are alive and not because we give their names for the islands' society knows what that man did with the children. And if there one rotten apple in the Cabildo, a leader who knew what was happening, of course I will go to trial and will be charged. "

- This is not his first case in the Canaries. Avicsin was also working in the disappearance of Yeremi Vargas ...

"Yes, we did some things and the family is very nice people. The problem of Yeremi case is being investigated as if they were dead and I truly believe he is still alive. I have to have faith in that, but there For people who give up as lost.. "

- Can be a network of child trafficking and prostitution Yeremi behind the case?

"Look, in the last two years there were 400 arrests of pedophiles, child molesters and people who trafficked in child pornography in the Canaries. If there are 400 arrests in 24 months, what could be happening in the Islands? When a child disappears Peninsula is great social alarm, but here is very small and I would change that. "

- Are not you tired this constant struggle to defend the child?

"It is sacrificed and luckily I have the support of my family. I am a person of heart and soul, and fills me most is to fight for justice by a person who has suffered an injustice. And much more if it is of a child. Some people ask me if I do this effort because I was an abused child. For nothing. What influenced me to be a born fighter for the rights of minors, was seen in Colombia as he was a child He passed first through a minefield. not trying to be El Salvador in the world. I'm just one person, only one struggling. And for those who say they work for a political party or that the hotel charged me council, they say no, I'm apolitical and completely free.

google chrome. love it.

Thanks Marky, mumbles and Annabel. In the 1970s, my then husband (a social worker) and I, stayed overnight once to be in charge of a local children's home in Herefordshire because of industrial action by care staff and other council employees. There was a rota of social workers assigned to staff the home and their friends and relations helped out.

At that time, there were no checks on who worked in children's homes and definitely no checks on those who took over and staffed that place in Herefordshire. That home was later the subject of an abuse investigation.

Doesn't anyone remember this Toscana who claimed to have proof of who took Maddie? I don't recall the details but I do remember that he went to Portimão and tried to see the PJ.

I remember this person from way back in the mists of time . I don't remember reading that anything happened with regard to his claims or even if he did get to speak to the PJ.

"Correio da Manhã writes, also today, that Policia Judiciária is following the lead given by Spanish “investigative journalist” Antonio Toscano, without mentioning any source. According to this daily newspaper, who quotes Mr. Toscano, he said that “he will send to Portuguese Police a list of persons that are connected with the alleged kidnapper of Madeleine, nicknamed 'El Francês' (The French)'. Mr Toscano said also he is “absolutely sure that the girl is alive and can be found”. Chief-Inspector Olegário de Sousa is quoted as saying just that the “information (from Mr. Toscano) is being evaluated.”
