A 12-year-old boy found dead in Edlington Empty A 12-year-old boy found dead in Edlington

Post  jejune Wed 8 Dec - 16:55

"A police investigation has begun after the body of a 12-year-old boy was found hanging in a house.South Yorkshire Police said the boy was found at an undisclosed address in Edlington, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire.A spokesman said the body was found at about 4.30pm on Monday."

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I've just seen it on AOL.co.uk news. I hope against hope that this is not one of those poor boys who were dreadfully assaulted in Edlington in, I think, 2009, as the age would fit with the timeline. It would be the worst possible thing for the families involved to go through this. Whoever this little lad is, my heart goes out to him and his family.

This is so tragic, and if your instincts are right, we can expect another convoluted cover-up.

No more news on this little lad, except for the fact that a post-mortem was being done today. The police are still withholding the family's name - I'm not sure whether that's normal for this type of case at this stage? I know it seems wrong to say I don't want it to be one of the boys attacked in Edlington last year, because whichever family is going through this will be suffering unbearably. I think it's the idea that those children have been so terribly affected by what other human beings can do that this would be the outcome. I really don't know how to explain myself on this one, because every child lost is a tragedy. Perhaps it's that ridiculous hope that awful things will have some kind of good outcome, and not wanting to think how one little boy could be suffering so much as to end his life this way A 12-year-old boy found dead in Edlington 389741 . Whoever the little one is, I hope his family realise that others will be thinking about him, even though they never knew him.

This is appalling if it's connected to what you say. It is sad to hear about and I do feel so sad for his parents.

Middle-class schoolboy, 12, hangs himself after 'taunts he spoke too politely'

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:07 AM on 10th December 2010

Bradley was apparently bullied because of the way he spoke. A keen rugby player he appeared for Doncaster Rugby Union Football Club's under-12s side

A schoolboy hanged himself after playground bullies terrorised him for the way he talked, it is claimed.

Bradley Wiseman, 12, who it is claimed was being targeted because of his well-spoken voice, was found at his home on Monday.

Hundreds of friends have now blasted bullies on an online memorial page who are said to have tormented Bradley at his school in Edlington, South Yorkshire.

Shelly-Louise Hindley wrote on Facebook: 'Hope their guilt follows them always and they realise the severity of what they have caused. . . Rip bradly lovee.'

Anthony Rushton added: 'You don't deserve this, no one does. Its an awful shock to everyone, we have all been hurt by this.'

Since the tragedy earlier this week, neighbours have rallied round to help the boy's 37-year-old mother.

One neighbour said: 'We're all here for her. He was a lovely lad, so polite. It is completely out of character, he never would have done it if he wasn't being bullied at school.

'They bullied him because he talked politely, he was very well spoken, you wouldn't have known he came from round here.

'He was a lovely kid and it is so sad what has happened. We are all devastated.'

Rugby -mad Bradley attended Sir Thomas Wharton Community College and played on the wing for Doncaster Rugby Union Football Club's Under-12s.

His coach John Wills said: 'He was a lot of fun. There was no evidence of him being bullied at rugby practice or during games.

'He loved rugby and would come along with his mum and brother and sister.

'Bradley was really popular with all the other boys.'

Mary McCorry, headteacher at Sir Thomas Wharton Community College, said: 'Bradley had settled into school well and there have been no reports of bullying or any problems that we are aware of.

'On behalf of everyone at Sir Thomas Wharton, we are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of one of our pupils.

'Bradley was a bright and popular boy and will be very much missed at school. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with his family at this difficult time.'

An investigation by South Yorkshire Police has been started following the grim discovery at 4.30pm on Monday.

A spokesman said officers were not treating the death as suspicious.

Thanks for this information Mumbles. I haven't seen this anywhere else. Obviously his parents have chosen to keep their grief as private as possible, and this is being respected. If this is about bullying I find it difficult to understand why so many children are killing themselves over this in the 21st century. Bullying is now seen as a problem that needs to be dealt with, rather than something that you have to suffer in silence, so why are more and more children taking their own lives because of it? It's not as if it's going on without anybody knowing, as the reason given for the suicide is bullying, so families and schools are aware of what's going on. And why do so many children choose hanging as the suicide method, which seems to be me to be a particularly horrible way to die? A 12-year-old boy found dead in Edlington 389741

In the past, if you were being bullied at school, you could at least close the doors and forget about it when you came home. Not so anymore. Because they can follow you areound on Facebook or send you text messages.

I think that might be a part of the general reason Jejune, I obviously don't know the specifics of this case.

That's a very distressing read Mumbles.

It is sad to hear that bullying was the cause of this child taking his life.

I am not surprised, and I thought this might be the reason.

However, there is no "Bullying Policy" within schools that adequately deals with "the bullies". They are given an opportunity to discuss why they do it with their "victim" and explain themselves - but this has an even more detrimental affect on the "victim" having to be in the same room usually makes their suffering worse. But it seems to me the lack of support the victims receive that - as usual - the bullies prevail. Usually the "victim" has to change schools to escape this treatment whereas - it should be the other way round.

I don't know how many years it is, but quite a few, since schools in England and Wales were legally obliged to have in place an effective anti-bullying policy. Of all the schools I have worked in since then, I would say that every one has a policy that looks good on paper, but none has a policy that works in practice and most bullying still goes unreported. The worst, I think, is where the trendy-lefty yogurt-weaving liberals have bully and bullied facing each other. Never works, as you say, Angelique. The bully gets great ammunition in terms of what the bullied finds hurtful or scares him/her.

Bullies get great support! They are often given a get-out-of-class card, which they use when they feel they are getting angry or cannot settle or whatever. They can then go to 'student services,' to chat to their support worker. Bullies need a lot of support apparently! Ah bless! I'd give them support if I had my way....supported on the toe of my boot in the area of the rear end!

Totally agree with you - it seems the "bullied" have no rights at all. The rest of their lives are blighted by what they have been through but it's of no consequence to the perpetrator - it's very sad.
