Simon Newton, Sky correspondent
More than nine million people who work or volunteer with children will no longer need to have a criminal records check under new plans announced by the Government.

The proposal to scrap the widely criticised vetting system will be one of a series of measures included in a new Protection of Freedoms Bill.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has announced that only people who work closely with children and vulnerable adults will now have to undergo the checks.

Whilst the present system is no doubt flawed, sure some check is preferable to no check at all?
