I don't know if this is in the online version. I read it in the paper version of the Daily Mirror.

"Dog weeds out £50K dope farm"

A police dog sniffed out a suspected drug dealer in a pub - and it led to a £50,000 cannabis farm.

Marley, an English springer spaniel, picked out the 31-year-old who had 14 bags of cocaine on him.

A search of his home found 120 marijuana plants. He has been bailed until April 3rd.

Marley visited 15 boozers with his handler in a weekend sting that saw 12 people detained and one arrested.

Four had drugs on their person when Marley, who is trained to sit down next to suspects, snuggled up to them in bars around Bolton.

Sgt Paul Ellis, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Marley, and other dogs like him, are very good at what they do. So, if you are using or supplying drugs in the Bolton area then you can expect to be caught."

"We targeted pubs away from the town centre as we're aware that those who use drugs will take them before they reach the centre."

Now, imagine a sniffer dog trained to sit down next to someone who was wearing clothes that carried cadaver odour! "Kate McCann was seen battering a springer spaniel on the head with a soft pink toy. She said "I can't get rid of that dog. Wherever I go, he's sitting next to me."

Another good example of springer intelligence!

Yes - I expect that's why Kate took CC to work with her - so she could bat away those 'nosey" dogs!

They're just amazing, especially springers that are said to be the best.

You may be right about "cocker spaniels" - I only know from experience and what we see when these spaniels are in 'action' - doing what they do best.

I have been fortunate enough to work with two springers and I can tell you they are extremely useful in the field. They are natural "searchers" being used to find and bring back pheasants in the field. But they are used simply because of their noses! They do it so well.

I tried many many times to hide in a playful way with these two dogs but its impossible to fool them - they found me every time. I used to collapse laughing at them because they enjoyed it so much. They just love to 'find' things.

That springer spaniel that found the £50k drug farm used to be my dog, we had him from a pup until he was one years old, we phoned up the woman who is taking care of him and asked if we could have some pictures of him and she mentioned that he was in the bolton newspaper.
im so proud of him, because i know that he is doing good things for the community to crack down on things like this.
