CARING JK Rowling was so moved by a girl’s letter asking for help to pay for a memorial that she donated a full set of signed Harry Potter books.

Shona Macleod, 15, wanted to raise £950 for a park bench where she could “talk” to friend Kieran Goulding, 15, who died in a coach crash.

Shona’s mum Lisa said they were “absolutely amazed” when Rowling sent the books with a handwritten note.

It read: “I am so very sorry to hear about Kieran. What a wonderful way to communicate to him.”

The seven books, including some first editions, are due to sell for £4,000 when Bonhams auctions them in Oxford on Tuesday.

Chloe Walker, 16 and motorist Patrick Short, 68, also died in the tragedy in Keswick, Cumbria, last year.

As Shona easily hit her target for the bench, with an extra £2,050 going to local rescue charities, the proceeds will go to a new fund set up for terminally ill children.

Interesting timing, huh? The day after JKR issues a denial about helping the McCanns in any way beyond having the same agent, out comes this piece indicating that JKR has a heart, sympathizes with those who miss the boy, and is generous with them, helping them go beyond their goal. These people are donating the surplus to others, which is also completely unlike the McCanns.

And it's not just these people whom JKR has been kind to:

Take THAT, McCanns!

Did any of the mainstream papers print the denial from JKR about her "help". It would have been even better if the stories of the help and the denial ran side by side, but like you say, it does seem to be making a point of her willingness to help in genuine cases.

I don't think so, my mum had seen the story in the Mirror, but hadn't heard about the denial issued!

I've read in the past of JKR's kindness and willingness to help others. IOW, putting the values shown in the Harry Potter books into practice. I think she really was sympathetic when it looked as though Madeleine had been abducted, she may still feel like that, but as I've said many times she's very against the whole idea of book-banning and therefore it may well have come of something of an unpleasant shock to her to find Madeleine's parents joining the book-banning brigade. This is why it seemed so ridiculous for the papers to be claiming JKR was helping Kate write her book; she'd hardly help someone write their own book while that someone is demanding someone else's book is banned. (Too many 'someone's' in there but hope you can see what I mean.)

IMO.

This is the most recent thing I read about JK Rowling

JK Rowling 'helping to write Madeleine McCann book'
JK Rowling is understood to have helped Kate McCann write her harrowing account of the events following her daughter Madeleine's disappearance in May 2007.

The Harry Potter author has supported the McCanns in their search for their daughter since she disappeared from a Portuguese holiday apartment in the Algarve village of Praia da Luz.

JK Rowling has helped Kate McCann write her account of the events following her daughter's disappearance (PA)
Rowling also helped Kate and husband Gerry to secure a book deal by putting them in touch with her agent Christopher Little, who arranged a contract with publishers Transworld.
They hope the book will raise around £1 million, every penny of which will go to the Madeleine Fund, to pay for private detectives who are continuing to work on the case.
Donations from the public and wealthy benefactors saw the fund raise £1 million in just four months, but it has recently dwindled to £200,000.
Ms McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, said: 'Publishing this book has been a very difficult decision and is one that we have taken after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart.
'However, in the last few months, with the depletion of Madeleine's Fund, it is a decision that has virtually been taken out of our hands.'
The book, called Madeleine, will be published on May 12th - which would be the youngster's eighth birthday.
In 2007, Rowling pledged a reported £1 million of her own money as part of a reward for information leading police to find the little girl.

If anyone can help someone expand on a work of fiction is a person who has made a lot of money from fantasy.

fred,

In the article below about the author JKR the McCann book is mentioned. The article imo reads as the spokesman for the author i.e: JKR.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/rowling-to-demolish-1631m-house-to-expand-garden-2266450.html

Yesterday it emerged that the author had given a helping hand to Kate McCann, the mother of the missing eight-year-old, Madeleine, with her account of the disappearance in Portugal four years ago. But Rowling denied reports that she had written the book which is due to be published next month.

In a statement a spokesman for the author said: "While JK Rowling has been a long-term family supporter, her only part in bringing the book to publication has been in supporting the fact that her literary agent was also representing Kate. Beyond this, she has not been involved in any aspect of the writing, editing or publication of the book.

What a sad way to try and drum up interest.

Then you have Rowling issuing this denial - where'd the paper get the idea she was ghost author? Sounds like a good marketing ploy so I can imagine TM was behind this fraud, like the others.

J.K.Rowling, Mmmmm.

Let's see the truth about her.

It's easy to deny involvement on a sinking ship.
