Why HIM and not HER?
She is apparently seen by Murdoch as the daughter he did not have.... Coulson on the other hand is seen by everyone has the son no one would want.

Didn't the Camerons and Rebekah Brooks have a cosy meal last December, maybe more of a strategy meeting seen as Coulson resigned in January

It all stinks - Murdoch has way too much power in the media and needs stopping, the politicians daren't do it cos he will take them down - They're all too intertwined to be ethical

Cameron squirming and very uncomfortable in news conference

Rebekah is the spider at the centre of the web.
Personally I think the whole house of cards is beginning to tumble for the McCanns. They are part of all this whether they care to admit it or not. Where did all those stories come from? You know the 'family spokesman' ..the 'sources close to the investigation'... etc. If Scotland Yard don't now know EVERYTHING about this case I'll eat my shorts.

I watched Channel 4 News last night and they referred to some files held in India - this is a transcript but you can watch a catch up version if you missed it:

This is the excerpt: "An individual at News International contacted the HCL Computer Data Storage Centre in Chennai, India where some of the News International files are kept. The individual asked that certain files be deleted but was refused by a member of HCL staff"

Trying to cover their backs methinks.

But he does have a daughter, Elizabeth. I can't understand why Wade has managed to sail through her media career, from secretary to CE of a massive corporation, be at the head of a maelstrom of corrupt practices, and still be sitting on her highly paid perch, apparently immune to any scandals happening under her stewardship. I always thought she and Ross Kemp were a strange match. I wonder if she only married him to have better access to media celebrity circles, and ditched him when he was no longer useful to her. It must have been a kick in the teeth for him when she changed her last name to her second husband's, after she'd always kept her maiden name when she was in her first marriage.

This woman must have a hell of a lot on a hell of a lot of people. How many others have been sacrificed to her ambition?

We've known about News of the World payments for years

Graeme McLagan
guardian.co.uk, Friday 8 July 2011 18.39 BST
Article history

There is no escape from the fact that the News of the World was well known to be involved in making corrupt payments to police officers in the late 1990s and in the early 2000s.

As a former BBC home affairs correspondent, I had written extensively about police corruption. The Guardian carried two long stories by me in 2002 naming the News of the World under the headings "Journalists caught on tape in police bugging" and "Fraudster squad". More detail came the following year in my book Bent Coppers.

I had obtained confidential Scotland Yard reports and other documents relating to a bugging operation conducted against a south London private detective agency called Southern Investigations, suspected of receiving leaks of information from corrupt detectives which was then sold on to tabloid newspapers, among them the News of the World and the Sunday Mirror.

The agency's two principals, Jonathan Rees and ex-detective sergeant Sid Fillery, had both been arrested in connection with the 1987 murder of Rees's former partner, Daniel Morgan, found in a pub car park with an axe embedded in his head. For some years, the agency and its associates had played a part in setting up newspaper stings, providing information and bodyguards to the likes of the News of the World's "fake sheikh", Maz Mahmood.

But of greater concern was its gathering from police and other sources of scandalous information about celebrities and establishment figures, including politicians and members of the royal family, as well as the belief that some police operations were being jeopardised through leaks to the media.

I quoted in the Guardian from an internal police report which warned anti-corruption officers planting the bugs at the agency to be extra careful because their targets were "alert, cunning and devious individuals who have current knowledge of investigative methods and techniques which may be used against them. Such is their level of access to individuals within the police, through professional and social contacts, that the threat of compromise to any conventional investigation against them is constant and very real."

Another report quoted in the Guardian said: "Rees and others have for a number of years been involved in the long-term penetration of police and intelligence sources … They have ensured that they have live sources within the Metropolitan police service and have sought to recruit sources within other police forces. Their thirst for knowledge is driven by profit to be accrued from the media."

A report on just one month of bugging at the agency shows an officer passing on information about the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, and high-profile prisoners awaiting trial. Information from police working on the murder of the TV presenter Jill Dando was also being received and re-sold to newspapers. An officer in the royalty protection squad was giving information, including a tip that the marriage of two minor members of the royal family was in trouble.

Transcripts of the bugging operation identify Alex Marunchak of the News of the World as one of the agency's lucrative customers. In a telephone conversation, Rees said Marunchak owed the agency £7,555. The transcript says that the money would be paid in the name Media Investigations, with Rees adding that the account would be "back within the agreed limit" by the following week.

Asked at the time by the Guardian if he disputed buying material from Rees, Marunchak replied: "You haven't heard me admit it."

The anti-corruption investigators hoped that their operation would result in long custodial sentences for both police and journalists. "The Metropolitan police will undoubtedly benefit if a journalist is convicted of corrupting serving police officers," said another confidential report. "This will send a clear message to members of the media to consider their own ethical and illegal involvement with employees of the Met in the future."

But it was not to be. Instead, in 2002, Rees, another man and a detective were all jailed after being found guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice which involved the planting of drugs on an innocent woman. Fillery received a community rehabilitation order after admitting 15 counts of making indecent images of children.

No journalist was charged as a result of the anti-corruption operation, the view apparently being that it could not be proved that the reporters knew that the information they were receiving and paying for came from corrupt officers.

After Rees came out of prison, he resumed working with the media, particularly with Marunchak of the News of the World. But in early 2008, Rees and three other men were charged with the axe murder of Daniel Morgan, and Fillery was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Their Old Bailey trial was expected to hear details of the agency's dealings with the media, and the allegation that Morgan was murdered because he was about to expose police corruption. But after long legal argument the trial collapsed earlier this year without it even getting in front of a jury.

News of the World to close: Executive 'may have deleted millions of emails'

Police are investigating claims that an executive at the News of the World's parent company may have deleted millions of emails in an alleged attempt to destroy evidence before it could be reached by police, it has been reported.

The emails are said to be part of a six-year-old News International archive that shows close links between News of the World staff and the private investigators alleged to have carried out the phone hacking.

If the allegations are confirmed it could prove a major set back to the police's ongoing investigation.

A senior executive is said to have destroyed "massive quantities" of the archive in two evidence-destroying sessions, the Guardian reported citing sources close to the police investigation.

The deleting sessions, one of which is said to have taken place in January, just as Operation Weeting was being launched, have erased all but a small number of emails, the source said.

The Guardian also claimed that News International executives had leaked sensitive information about the ongoing investigation and tried to hide the contents of a desk belonging to James Weatherup, a senior reporter, following his arrest in April.

If the allegations are true they would seriously undermine News International's repeated claims to be cooperating with the police.

Detectives are said to have identified the executive they believe deleted the archive and are considering bringing charges for perverting the course of justice.

During the perjury trial of Scottish politician Tommy Sheridan, the paper's Scottish editor, Bob Bird, said the emails had been lost en route to Mumbai, while News International's solicitor said the company was unable to retrieve messages more than six months old.

The solicitor, Julian Pike, later apologised to the High Court and said emails as far back as 2005 could be retrieved.

It is this 2005 archive that police are said to believe has been tampered with.

"I am going to make a formal complaint to the police."

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2011/01/30/parents-of-missing-madeleine-mccann-demand-phone-hacking-files-86908-22886491/

Did the McC PR make a complaint? Was he contacted by SY? Hmm and they want to interview him again! Hmm!

The case of Madeleine McCann is expected to be one of the first to be re-examined by detectives from Scotland Yard's new inquiry into the phone hacking, Operation Weeting.

Clarence Mitchell, Kate and Gerry McCann's spokesman, said he has been interviewed by officers from the hacking inquiry Operation Weeting, and is due to be interviewed a second time in the near future.

Many posters have questioned why the McCanns seemed bullet proof. IMO we have had the answer: look at their bedfellows. Prime Ministers, using Madeleine to further their ratings. The News Of The World, making money off poor Madeleine via the book; the Freud guy, husband of Brooks, and his father entertained the McCanns, Murdock, Brook's boss, controller of the media. Mitchell, connected to both governments. And Scotland Yard implicated as well in the whole cess pool.

Anybody see a connection?

Anybody still doubt that a whitewash was planned?

I don't think that the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance stood a chance. No wonder it was shelved without any proper questioning of the Tapas 9, as the rogotary interviews show. The FSS suddenly back pedalled too.

I always thought the whole thing stunk to high heaven.
