Eneko Gogeaskoetxea has been living in Cambridge with his family under false papers

One of the ETA terrorist chiefs has been arrested in Cambridge in the U.K.

Eneko Gogeaskoetxea is considered by anti-terrorism experts to have been at the top of the terrorist organisation since the fall of ‘Teroki’.

He is accused of the assassination of a ertzaina Basque regional policeman at the doors of the Guggenheim Museum in October 1997. He is an expert in computers, and is considered to be responsible for innovations seen in ETA explosives.

It now emerges that the 44 year old has been living in the U.K., complete with his family, using false papers. There are as many as ten judicial orders open against him.

Earlier the long-term ETA activist, Daniel Derguy, was arrested in France on an extradition order from Spain. He had an important role in the logistical part of the terrorist organisation, and had been released in 2008 after completing 12 years in prison in France.

Police got their break when a Spaniard recognised the ETA chief at a sports club in Cambridge.
