I think the problem with Rupert Murdoch is that he has never been in such a position before. He is in a position where he must answer the questions and he has no idea how to handle this. He has always been on the other side of the desk before, giving orders and instilling fear. He's at a total loss as how to manage this which explains the monsyllablic answers. His son drones on and on like so many business executives who are full of wind and without substance.

The longer James rambles on giving answers he is comfortable with the fewer questions that can be asked.
