Judge to Tabak: you are wicked, deceitful and manipulative

I think Tabak showed that very clearly in those text messages to his girlfriend.

Re: TRIAL OF VINCENT TABAK BEGINS 4/10/11

Post  Panda on Sat 29 Oct - 9:13

The case began as a missing person
inquiry, made more poignant and newsworthy because the young woman had
disappeared during the festive period.

But after Joanna Yeates’s frozen body was discovered on a snowy
roadside verge on Christmas morning, it became a huge murder hunt and a
story that gripped the UK and international media.

The solution to the mystery turned out to be simple: the 25-year-old
landscape architect was killed by her neighbour, the Dutch-born engineer
Vincent Tabak.

To the torment of her loved ones, however, the truth about exactly
what happened on the night of 17 December last year in Flat one, 44
Canynge Road, Bristol, may never be known.

Tabak waited until the last possible moment – when he was in the witness box – to offer his version of events.

He claims Yeates invited him into her flat and made a flirty remark
as they chatted in the kitchen, which encouraged him to make a pass at
her.

Tabak says she screamed, and to stop her he gripped her throat with
his right hand and put his left over her mouth. After about 20 seconds
she slumped lifeless to the floor.

The police and prosecution believe there are huge holes in Tabak’s
account. They think this was a sex attack and that Tabak might have
derived a thrill from the act of strangling his neighbour, from having
her at his mercy and under his control.

They have suggested Tabak might have been spying on Yeates and may
have found an excuse to knock on her door that night rather than being
spontaneously invited in.

The attack may have started in the hallway, which was found in a
chaotic state. It could have carried on in the bedroom: one of the
earrings Yeates is thought to have been wearing was discovered beneath
the duvet.

There is also the possibility that something may have happened after
Tabak carried Yeates’s body back to his own flat. Certainly, according
to the prosecution, there was a delay of more than an hour before he put
her body into the boot of his car and drove it away.

Finally, what police and pathologists discovered when they examined
Yeates’s body suggested more went on than Tabak admits to recalling.

She had suffered 43 injuries, including wounds to her face, throat
and arms. Though her jeans had not been tampered with, her T-shirt had
been pulled up above her breasts and part of her right breast exposed. A
sample of Tabak’s DNA was found on her chest, though scientists could
not establish what it came from.

The bottom line is that nobody apart from Tabak can say what happened
– and he claims his memory of exactly what happened remains sketchy.

Not at all sketchy are the last known moments of Yeates’s life. They have become all too familiar.

She vanished eight days before Christmas after leaving the Ram pub on
Park Street in Bristol, where she had been enjoying after-work drinks
with work colleagues. It was cold and snow and ice lay thick on the
pavements.

Yeates bought a tomato, mozzarella and basil pizza from a supermarket
and picked up two bottles of cider from an off-licence. Police believe
she got back to her Clifton flat, which was already decorated in
readiness for Christmas, at about 8.45pm.

Within moments – at about 8.50pm – partygoers heading to a nearby house heard two screams. And then silence.

Yeates’s boyfriend, Greg Reardon, returned from a weekend away on the
evening of Sunday 19 December to find Yeates missing, though her mobile
phone, keys, purse and coat were there.

At 12.45am he dialled 999 and less than four hours later a police
officer banged on the door of Flat two. Tabak answered and denied all
knowledge.

His denial led to – in Tabak’s own words – a “week of hell” for
Yeates’s family and friends. Over the next seven days police and family
issued a series of increasingly desperate appeals for help in finding
Yeates.

On 23 December police revisited Tabak and carried out a routine
search of the flat he shared with his girlfriend, Tanja Morson, to check
Yeates was not there. He joked to friends that they must have thought
he had stashed her in a drawer.

Tabak and Morson, the daughter of a Harvard-educated lawyer, then
left Bristol to spend Christmas in Cambridge at her parents’ home. On
Christmas Eve, Detective Constable Karen Thomas, a member of the
police’s major crime
investigation team, spoke to Tabak by telephone about his movements on
the night of Yeates’s disappearance. He told her he was in all evening
before driving in the early hours of the morning to pick up Morson after
a work party.

He was able to say he did not know Yeates. She and Reardon moved in
at the start of October 2010 and he left for a business trip in
California on 6 November, only returning on 11 December, six days before
the killing. They were in effect strangers.

On Christmas morning, at about the time Tabak and Morson – who
remained ignorant of her boyfriend’s crime – were opening their
presents, Yeates’s body was found by a dog walker, covered in leaves and
a pile of snow next to a quarry wall at Longwood Lane, Failand, three
miles from Clifton. It looked as if the killer had tried to heave the
body over the wall. Had he succeeded Yeates could still be a missing
person.

The media interest became a frenzy. One tabloid suggested Yeates may
have been held captive for several days before she was killed. Another
theory was that she may have been dumped at the scene alive and died of
hypothermia. The public was fascinated by the details. What had happened
to the pizza, which was never found? Why had she bought two bottles of
cider? Was she meeting someone? Was the killer waiting for her at the
flat? Why was there no sign of a break-in?

Only Tabak knew the truth and he was not telling. On 28 December he
and Morson drove via Eurotunnel to the Netherlands where they were to
spend new year with Tabak’s family.

There was no escape from the Yeates story in the Netherlands. On 30
December, Tabak and Morson watched a television news report of the
arrest of Joanna Yeates’s landlord, the former public school teacher
Christopher Jefferies, over the killing.

At this point Tabak made a huge mistake. Spotting a chance to frame
Jefferies, he contacted Avon and Somerset police and suggested the
landlord had been out and about in his car on the night of Yeates’s
death.

The murder team sent DC Karen Thomas to Amsterdam and on New Year’s
Eve she spoke to Tabak at a hotel near Schiphol airport for six hours.

For the first time, Tabak’s behaviour seemed suspicious. He talked to
her about Jefferies but seemed, in Thomas’s words, “overly interested”
in the forensic examinations police were carrying out. Tabak also gave
Thomas a different version of what he had done on the night of Yeates’s
disappearance, explaining that he had gone out twice, once to take
photographs of the snow and the second time to go to Asda.

He also suggested he may have once set foot in the hallway of
Yeates’s flat, not when she was there but when he was chatting to
Christopher Jefferies before Yeates disappeared.

Thomas asked him to provide a DNA sample and fingerprints so they
could be eliminated if they were found in the flat. Tabak appeared
concerned but co-operated.

Jefferies was released on police bail on New Year’s Day and Avon and
Somerset police found themselves on the back foot, having to deny they
were back to square one.

Tabak, of course, assumed the net was closing in. When he and Morson
drove back to the UK on 2 January, Tabak expected to be arrested as soon
as he cleared customs. Every day he waited for the police to knock on
his door. He began to drink and take sleeping pills. He thought about
jumping off Clifton suspension bridge.

The knock finally came on 20 January – three weeks after he spoke to
police in Amsterdam. He was told that his DNA had linked him to Yeates’s
body.

He tried to blame the laboratory that had carried out the testing,
suggesting it was insecure, even that a scientist may have been paid to
set him up.

But the DNA evidence was damning and 30 days after killing Joanna
Yeates, Vincent Tabak appeared before Bristol magistrates charged with
her murder. In May at the Old Bailey he admitted manslaughter but denied
murder.

In court he told his extraordinary story during two days in the
witness box. How, after Yeates’s death, he had bundled her body into his
car boot before going shopping to Asda for beer and crisps and texting
his girlfriend that he was “bored”. He accepted that, following the
killing, he had researched subjects such as the difference between
murder and manslaughter and the definition of sexual assault. But he
repeatedly said he could not remember how Yeates had come by her 43
injuries – beamed on screens around the court – or even whether she had
been frightened.

Privately, detectives believe Tabak can recall what happened in
Yeates’s flat perfectly. They think he calculated that there was no
point in denying that he had killed her but gambled that the detectives
would not be able to prove he meant to do so.

Avon and Somerset police may now have some questions to answer. Why
did they not look into Yeates’s next-door neighbour more closely until
he contacted them with supposed information about Christopher Jefferies?
Did they preserve the scene of the crime properly in the early days?
Why did it still take three weeks for them to arrest Tabak after he gave
his DNA sample?

Of course, in the end, the death of Joanna Yeates and the continuing
agony her family must suffer partly because so much remains unclear is
down to Vincent Tabak.

“He is a clever young man who thinks he can play a clever game,” said
one senior police source. If he is playing a game, it is a cruel one
for Yeates’s nearest and dearest.

Morning wjk,

It"s a good report , and we now know things we didn2t know before. A discussion on this subject was on sky News earlier and someone asked
why the Jury could not have all this info beforehand which would have made their job easier. Apparently it is a Legal issue, any jury should only
have the info on the case concerned , any other info would be detrimental to the accused.

Morning Pandy, can you imagine if they'd found him not guilty and then heard all this other stuff?
They must be so relieved they made the right decision.
And how must his ex girlfriends family be feeling, knowing he was living with thier daughter. Doesn't bear thinking about! *shudder*

Mirror Article 30th October...........more lurid Press to upset the Family and Friends of Jo

anna Yeates's killer held hands to my throat during sex session, says escort girl

EXCLUSIVE by Graeme Culliford in Los Angeles, Sunday Mirror

30/10/2011

Decrease font size
Increase font size

LA hooker Princess Butterfly

As vile Vincent Tabak slid his fingers around the call girl’s throat
for a neck massage, she had no idea she was helping him live out his
depraved fantasy.

And she shudders with horror now to think she had placed her life in the evil hands of the perverted Bristol strangler.

To the glamorously-titled Princess Butterfly, he seemed charming, if
a little nervous, and quite different from most men she has to deal
with in downtown Los Angeles.

But on Friday, after Tabak was convicted of murdering Jo Yeates,
she found out the appalling truth... he was a killer with a sick
fascination for throttling women.

Princess Butterfly, 23, is now haunted by the parallels between her bizarre sex session and Jo’s murder just 15 days later.

“It is terrifying to think the same hands that were round my throat strangled poor Jo,” she said.

Her encounter with the twisted Dutch engineer came when he invited
her to a hotel room on the promise of paying her $200 (£125) for sex.

Before they had sex, Tabak – jailed for life for murdering Jo, 25 – asked if he could give her a massage.

The vice girl’s detailed account provides a disturbing insight into
the mind of a man we now know liked to watch violent pornography
showing women being choked during sex.

During the massage, Tabak put his fingers around her throat and rubbed his thumbs into her neck.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror, Princess
Butterfly said: “I did think it was kind of unusual when he started
giving me a neck massage.

“But he seemed like such a nice guy, such a gentleman. He was friendly and charming and I didn’t have any bad feelings.

EXCITED

“If anything he seemed a little nervous – and I thought that giving me a massage would be a good way for him to loosen up.

“He started on my lower back and slowly worked his way up until he
got to my shoulders. Then he put his hands around my neck and started
giving me a neck massage. He was sitting behind me on the bed, so his
fingers were around my throat and his thumbs were digging into the back
of me.”

Princess Butterfly leans backand wraps her hands around her slender throat, indicating the position he held her in.

“Then he just kept massaging and massaging me there for a long
time,” she added. “His hands were very soft and he was not rough when he
was doing it, so I didn’t feel scared. He did not hurt me. He said my
skin was nice and I could tell he was getting excited. I felt happy and
relaxed.

“He was rubbing my neck for about 10 minutes and the whole massage
must have taken about 40 minutes. Knowing what I know now, I can see the
danger I was in. But at the time I didn’t think anything of it.”

Princess Butterfly’s meeting with Tabak emerged during legal
argument at his trial. The prosecution were seeking to challenge the
defendant’s claim that he was sexually inexperienced and show that, in
fact, he was becoming obsessed with strangulation and sex in the weeks
before he murdered Jo.

They wanted the jury to know he regularly paid to visit websites
where he viewed films of sexual violence, including strangulation of
women. And he contacted call girls via online adult websites in both
America and the UK when he was on business trips away from his
girlfriend Tanja.

But the judge at Bristol crown court ruled that evidence about the
violent pornography and escort girls was inadmissible before the jury.

Princess Butterfly was one of two call girls he made contact with on December 2 during a trip to LA.

The hooker, who chose her name “because I am a princess and I have
loved butterflies since I was a little girl”, had placed nude photos of
herself next to an advert offering her services.

She said: “He called and said he wanted to meet up. I told him he had to make a $200 ‘donation’ for two hours.

“He did not argue about the price. He met me in the lobby of his hotel and was very polite and friendly.

“He told me his name was Chris and I noticed he had an accent. We
got into the elevator and went up to the fifth floor. Then he took me
into his room. It was nice with a big king-size bed.

“He had the TV on but no pornography or anything. He was wearing
nice clothes and his shoes were really fancy. He looked skinnier then
than he is now and I thought he was good looking. He wasn’t wearing
glasses.”

After he opened a bottle of wine, they spent much of the next hour
talking.Tabak mentioned he had a girlfriend but said they had recently
broken up. He said he had a good job with a big company and was from
Europe, but lived in the UK now.

She said she recalled these details because he was her first ever
European client – and she remembered him as a charming foreigner.

Butterfly said: “He was very smooth. I would even say that behind
the nerves he was a bit of a ladies man. He told me that I was very
beautiful and had a nice shape about me. He said I looked very perky.

“It was after talking for a while that he asked if he could give me a back massage.”

After the massage, he asked her to perform a sex act on him and she
agreed, taking his clothes off. After that, she stripped and she
recalled: “We had regular sex, with me on top. There was nothing weird
or freaky about it. He didn’t ask to do anything unusual. He was
touching my breasts but didn’t touch my neck again. I didn’t notice what
his body was like because my face was right next to his”

The prosecution in the Jo case said Tabak also made contact with another hooker called Mimi.

Computer records also revealed he was searching for internet pornography.

After he arrived back in the UK on December 11, he carried on
viewing web porn, including on the morning of December 17, just hours
before he strangled Jo.

It was only following the guilty verdict that the judge lifted an
order preventing the reporting of Tabak’s obsession with sex sites
showing violence against women.

He murdered the landscape architect at her flat in the Clifton area
of Bristol while his girlfriend Tanja was at a Christmas party and Jo’s
boyfriend Greg Reardon was away. After a three-week trial, the jury
dismissed his claim that he did not mean to kill her and found him
guilty of murder on a majority verdict of 10-2. As the dark secrets of
his double life emerged, he was jailed for life and ordered to serve a
minimum of 20 years.

Princess Butterfly, who has been selling sex for four years since
she was 19, shivers with fear as she recalls her night with Tabak.

The prostitute, who works the dangerous streets of a seedy district
but can make £2,500 a week, said: “I could not believe it when I read he
had killed that poor girl.

“It’s terrifying what he might have done but I feel blessed that God was watching over me that night.”

Tabak's Ex Tells Of Sorrow For Yeates Family

Vincent Tabak had been in a relationship with Tanja Morson for 18 months when he killed Miss Yeates

2:10pm UK, Sunday October 30, 2011

The former girlfriend of Vincent Tabak who had once dreamed
of marrying the murderer has extended her "deepest sorrow" to Joanna
Yeates' family.

Tanja Morson, 34, had initially stood by her boyfriend when police
questioned him over the 25-year-old's death, finding it impossible to
believe he was a killer.

But she quickly turned her back on Tabak when he confessed to a prison chaplain that he had strangled the landscape architect.

In her only statement, Miss Morson, said: "I would like to extend my
deepest sorrow and sympathy to the Yeates family for their loss.

He fooled us. He fooled everybody. There was a guardian angel for us, but not unfortunately for Joanna.

Geoffrey Morson

"I am thankful to the judge, the jury, the barristers and solicitors for all their ongoing attention and professionalism."

On Friday, Tabak was jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years
after a Bristol Crown Court jury found him guilty of murdering Miss
Yeates.

As Miss Morson comes to grips with the verdict of her boyfriend of 18
months - and further allegations of his secret pornography fetish - her
father Geoffrey told the Sunday Mirror how Tabak had "fooled
everybody".

He added that a "guardian angel" had saved his daughter from the
33-year-old Dutch engineer who he had once thought would become his
son-in-law.

Miss Yeates and her boyfriend Greg Reardon moved into the flat next to Tabak in October, 2010

The 68-year-old lawyer said: "We have gone from a position at the
time of Vincent's arrest of a total belief in his innocence to the point
where we accept there may be more for the police to investigate.

"He fooled us. He fooled everybody. There was a guardian angel for us, but not unfortunately for Joanna."

Tabak and Miss Morson had been seeing each other since meeting on an online dating website in November 2008.

Their relationship developed and by the following June they had set up home together on Canynge Road in Clifton, Bristol.

Miss Yeates' parents David and Teresa chose to stay at their Hants home when the verdict was delivered

In October 2010, Miss Yeates and her boyfriend Greg Reardon moved
into the neighbouring ground floor flat, where not even two months later
she was killed.

Miss Yeates' father David said no one could have predicted what lay behind Tabak's facade.

But the IT worker said he believed Tabak had killed his daughter
because he feared losing Miss Morson if she found out he had made a pass
at his neighbour.

He added: "We felt that, if it wasn't Jo, it would have been someone in the future."

Thanks Panda.
His ex girlfriend and her family sound like a lovely family too.
They must have nightmares about what happened to Jo, knowing but for the grace of god, it could be them.

wjk, his girlfriend was with him a long time, it"s a wonder he never showed any symptoms while he was with her. He looks really sweet in that photo with her. Strange he should freak out with Jo knowing she lived so close.

Yes, three years, they were together. He seemed to put her on a pedestal. His whole defence seemed to be about not letting his girlfriend know what really went on.

Child Porn Found On Murderer Tabak's Laptop

Tabak was told he will serve at least 20 years in
prison

12:14pm UK, Tuesday November 01, 2011

Joanna Yeates' murderer Vincent Tabak kept images of children being sexually
abused on his laptop computer, it has emerged.

The killer was handed a life sentence on Friday - with a minimum
20-year term - after a jury found him guilty of strangling the 25-year-old
landscape architect.

It was revealed after his conviction at Bristol Crown Court that Dutch
engineer was obsessed with images of women being strangled during sex and had a
taste for violent pornography and prostitutes.

The jury was never told about the parallels the material found had with the
way Miss Yeates died - including pornography that depicted blonde women being
throttled during sex or bundled into car boots.

During the examination of Vincent Tabak's computer, other material was found.
Once referred to the Crown Prosecution Service they will consider a number of
criteria before charging someone with an offence. This includes whether it is in
the public interest to do so.
Detective Chief Inspector
Phil Jones

And it has now come to light that 30 images of youngsters being sexually
abused were among those found by police on the hard drives of computers used by
33-year-old Tabak.

An officer involved in the investigation from Avon
and Somerset Police
, who asked not to be named, told the Bristol Evening
Post that officers wanted to clear up speculation surrounding these "other
matters".

"Tabak had 30 images depicting child pornography on his laptop computer at
home," he said.

"They were all category four images."

Joanna Yeates was found strangled with her top pulled over
her head

The officer added that Tabak's conviction for murder and life sentence meant
it was unlikely the Crown Prosecution Service would take action.

There are five levels of seriousness for offences involving indecent
photographs of children, which start with images depicting "erotic posing with
no sexual activity".

Category four images depict penetrative sexual activity involving a child or
children, or both children and adults.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones, who led the murder investigation,
confirmed:

"During the examination of Vincent Tabak's computer, other material was
found.

"We have referred this matter to the Crown Prosecution Service for initial
guidance.

"Once referred to the CPS they will consider a number of criteria before
charging someone with an offence. This includes whether it is in the public
interest to do so."

Miss Yeates' parents said after his conviction that they hoped
Tabak endured a "living hell" and expressed their "regret" he could not be
sentenced to death.

Morning chrissie, Tabak is turning out to be a Monster and it is incredible that his girlfriend never twigged, a real Jekyll and Hyde.

some of the images showed Stage 4 "penetrative sex" ........Keir Simmons ...."pornography" the explicit representation of sexual activity"....does it matter
whether it is an adult or a child?

Hi Panda, I suppose as the judge pointed out, there are plenty of adults who use porn but don't go on to murder people. If it's consenting adults then hey ho, whatever floats their boats. Where children are concerned, it is child abuse end of imo.
