Iowa - Kareem E. Ramos (28) Sentenced for Attempted Enticement of 14-Year-Old and Possession of Child Pornography Charges

DAVENPORT, IA—On October 21, 2011, Kareem E. Ramos, 28, of Wichita, Kansas, was sentenced to 168 months (14 years) of imprisonment for attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activities and possessing child pornography, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered that Ramos serve a 10-year term of supervised release following his incarceration and pay an assessment of $200 to Crime Victims Fund.

Ramos, who pleaded guilty on June 20, 2011, attempted to entice a 14-year-old girl to engage in illegal sexual activities and, in the course of doing so, used a cell phone to communicate with and text sexually graphic messages to the girl and an undercover police officer. Ramos sent text messages as part of arranging a meeting with the 14-year-old, and he traveled from Wichita, Kansas, to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to meet the girl. Ramos also possessed nude photos of the 14-year-old.

When Ramos came under investigation, he went to the Wichita, Kansas, airport to board a flight to Honduras, but he was arrested by FBI agents before boarding the airplane.

This investigation was conducted by the Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
