Brian Kennedy (Kate's Uncle)

Post  kathybelle on Wed 18 Jan - 0:41

I have been looking on You Tube to see if I can find the video where Brian Kennedy begged for money, to pay the McCanns expenses in Praia da Luz and their bills that were mounting up in their Rothley home. He also spoke of the McCanns friends in high places, who ordinary people didn't have access to. He said that his niece and her husband would be calling in favours from these people, should they need to.

I couldn't find this video, but I have found another video that some may find interesting. I don't have a link to the "You Tube" video, but it is called "Brian Kennedy Requests Money for Legal Expenditure." I know the interview was in 2007, as was the interview in the video I have been looking for, but it is worth watching.

Yes this is the video Wintabells, thank you for posting it. I wish I could find the other video, it is a real eyeopener and in my opinion, so is this video.

That was very early on and quite surprising for professional people to be in dire straits so quickly over financial matters. Elsewhere I have seen that the McCanns' mortgage was originally with Northern Rock. Didn't NR go down because it had given so many 'sub prime,' mortgages? Just speculating, of course, but perhaps that was the building society that would give the McCanns the big loan they needed to buy that modern warehouse of a house in Rothley. After the money started rolling in, they didn't have to worry so much about meeting the payments.

No mention of Madeleine, by Mrs McCann. She disgusted me when she said her son was uplifted now the fund was starting, although I wasn't surprised that the news about the fund uplifted Gerry.

No mention of Madeleine by Brian Kennedy, he was quite happy to say how touched he was by the people who were, as the interviewer said, stuffing money into his hands. He made sure that everyone knew how important it was for the money to reach the McCanns.

Madeleine had only been missing two weeks, the Portuguese taxpayers were funding the police searches and investigation into her disappearance. The McCanns must have really been in dire straits financially, because as Brian Kennedy said, the money was not just going to be used for legal expenses. Brian Kennedy said it wasn't an appeal, who does he think he was kidding? Of course it was an appeal for money.

If only I could find that other video, because he was begging for money in that interview, which was filmed only days before the McCanns left P.D.L., in September 2007. If my memory serves me right, he was interviewed by someone from the Leicester Mercury.

I was going to say the McCanns fled P.D.L. but looking back, I remember the McCanns were given back their passports, then given a police escort to the Algarve airport to catch the first available flight home.

"we're very concerned that it should reach as many
countries as possible" Madeleine's great uncle comments
on the video.
This was just 2 weeks after Madeleine went missing!!
Unbelievable! this was an event that happened in
Portugal and they want to go worldwide already!

I have been trying to find a later video of Brian Kennedy with the begging bowl but I keep coming up with the Irish singer of the same name!

Talking about spreading the word globally, did anyone else here receive an e-mail within two weeks of the "abduction" - originated by Aunt Philomena - asking for everyone to be alert in looking out for Madeleine especially if travelling in Europe. I received one at work (no I don't know how) and I passed it on to people who I knew were likely to be going abroad. Oh to have known then what I know now!

Going global? A lot more cash resources to tap!

Notice his body language at the start - arms folded in front of him means he is on the defnsive - ready to protect his own space. As soon as money is mentioned and he can move into a positive rhetoric his arms move apart in a welcoming gesture!

The McCanns and their family have got brass necks, expecting people to look for Madeleine, when none of them have lifted one finger to find her. My two children are now adults, but if they were small and we were going on holiday, whether it was in the UK or abroad, hard as it sounds, my priority would be making sure my children were safe, well and enjoying their holiday.

If I had received that email, I would have returned it to Philomena McCann and told her exactly what I thought of her brother and sister-in-law. I would also have told her what I thought of her and their extended family.

I felt quite sorry for Brian Kennedy early on. When Gerry was said to be making his first trip back to Rothley, Mr Kennedy was interviewed and he sounded embarrassed because no one had been in touch with him about Gerry's visit.
