Stephen Farrow arrested on suspicion of murders of Reverend John Suddards and Betty Yates

Detectives say the murders of Reverend John Suddards (left) and Betty Yates (right) are linked

by Martin Jefferies

Police investigating two deaths they believe to be linked have arrested a man in Folkestone on suspicion of murder.

Stephen Farrow, 47, was found at a property in Black Bull Road in the early hours of this morning.

The arrest, which was made by Kent Police at around 4.20am, followed a tip off from the public.

It came a day after Avon and Somerset Police named Farrow as a suspect in the murder of Reverend John Suddards.

The 59-year-old was found stabbed to death at the vicarage of St Mary's Church in Thornbury, near Bristol, on Tuesday.

Mr Suddards had been a clergyman for 22 years but only began working at St Mary's after moving from Witham, Essex, last July.

West Mercia Police have now formally linked his death with that of 77-year-old Betty Yates, who was murdered in Bewdley, Worcestershire.

Her body was found at the foot of the stairs at her home on January 4. Like Mr Suddards, she had been stabbed to death.

Farrow has now also been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Mrs Yates, although he remains in the custody of Avon and Somerset Police.

DCI Simon Crisp, senior investigating officer at Avon and Somerset Police, said: "I would like to thank the public and all those who have helped us to find Stephen Farrow.

"It was as a direct result of assistance from the public that we were able to locate him and we would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude."

DCI Neil Jamieson of West Mercia Police added: "We would like to thank Avon and Somerset Police for their help in our investigation.

"We've been working with them to examine similarities between the deaths of Betty Yates and the Reverend John Suddards."

It seems they may have him for two murders....
