Good morning all. I don't post often (if not all all) but I do follow this site nearly every day. This morning I saw the following discussion in Netmums, they are talking about microchipping and Madeleine's "abduction" there.

And there was I thinking there was already an innate tracking system available - called "Exercising Parental Responsibility".

I wonder how much bigger a garden folk like Healy/McCann could justify dining at the bottom of if they felt they'd have no trouble homing in on any children they happened to lose as a result?

I am totally against microchipping children. Yes, children can get lost very quickly, even with very vigilant parents/ carers. I was at a farm centre a couple of weeks ago with my five-year-old grandson. We had been in a shed looking at goats and it was time to go and watch an exhibition of birds of prey. I told my grandson I was going to put unused food pellets back in the bag, which was on a table next to where we were standing, turned round to do that, turned back and he wasn't there. Panic! However, just a couple of seconds later, he appeared in the door of the shed, looking horrified. He had walked out of the shed, thinking I was behind him, but fortunately had quickly checked, found I wasn't there and came back, saying "I thought I had lost you, Nanna Anna. You should hold my hand all the time."!!

i would also be totally against a system such as this.

if children are microchipped, one fear i would have is that there would be many more more mccann families out there, leaving their kids alone and in danger with the attitude "shur they are microchipped, we will find them later if they disappear"

Microchipping thread in Netmums 306321 NordicInKent

Just reading the posts on the mums net site and for a minute it looked as though they were ready to sign up then suddenly sense prevailed and they realised that, no, it's not really going to work is it!

It comes down to parental responsibility and taking care of ones children in the best way you can.

This technology is all very well and good but there are some inventions that just don't fulfil and I think micro chipping human beings is a case in point.

Microchips? Are they not the chips done in
a microwave? Microchipping thread in Netmums 25346

Anyway, so we introduce microchipping,
where do we start?
Rich kids first?, valuable ones?, those from
the developed countries? Those that can
afford it? Employed parents only?

Potential abducters/kidnappers would just
go for the vast majority that fell outside
the 'chipping' encatchment.

Microchipping on animals has been around
for ages, but it seems only valuable lifestock
race horses, greyhounds and pedigree dogs
need this technology. Children would be treated
the same way.

Netmums is full of brainwashed lefty parents who think no wrong of the McScams and anyone who dares to say they don't believe the parents is jumped on for their opinion!

I don't agree with microchipping at all, as mossman says some parents will see it as a green light to neglect their children, and as for the chip telling you whether the child is alive, hurt or dead that would mean the chip has active parts emitting signals - l wouldn't have that in my child. (How is it going to know if your child is hurt anyway? alive or dead l can understand, but hurt?? )

I had my dog microchipped years ago, they put it in his neck. He died of brain tumours and there's been alot of talk of this happening to other dogs so l'm totally against microchipping anything alive now.

Glad to see that most of the Netmums find microchipping repugnant.

I remember seeing a documentary about this and one Mum thinking it was a good idea - her naivety made me shudder - the fact that she couldn`t see where all this is going, all in the guise of `being good for you`. If microchipping of kids gains momentum amongst the easily conned/guileless sections of society (which seem to be the majority these days), it will be easy to make those people refusing to have their kids microchipped feel pressurised into having it done. Its called the slippery slope. And then after a few years it becomes easier to makes these things law. With that, plus having our eyes, fingerprints, DNA, bank details, NHS records, all available to those in authority, it will be a total Big Brother senario. The all seeing EYE. No way Jose.

If children were microchipped, paedos would get hold of those wands the vets use to find and 'read' the chips. Quick dig with a sharp object. Check to make sure the chip has gone. Those microchips could lead to all sorts of injuries by paedos and someone who took the child of a wealthy family for ransom.

Netmums drives me into despair sometimes but I still do occasionally read it (car crash value!). This thread is surprisingly civilised, only couple of comments about their "big mistake" and "how they are suffering every day in their life". Back in the last spring when KM's book was published, there was thread about them and it was appalling to read. If you posted anything critical, however kindly written, you were torn to pieces and called all sort of names.

This is it and the the whole prospect of microchipping and everything that goes with it makes me very very scared - I dread to think what is possibly done about this behind the curtains .

Wasn't there some conspiracy about microchipping and McCanns "sacrificing" Madeleine for the "greater good"?

My Sisters dog is chipped which I suppose is a good idea for Pets, but not Humans. If Madeleine had been chipped and abducted to another Country, would the signal be transmitted from hundreds of miles away. I would never have dreamed of having my children chipped , they are not Pets they are
our offspring and deserve love and care, not a "it was our holiday too " response . Gerry must rue the day he made that remark.

The idea of implanting a microchip in children is a bit sick IMO!
I have 4 children and the idea turns my gut! Children that are young and dependant on you should never be far enough away from you to need such a thing!
They sell special wrist bands (one for parent and one for child) that have an alarm that goes off if your child goes so many meters away from you, perfect for use at a busy place if you worry!

This summons up thoughts of Nazi Germany. If you don't have the right chip (badge) you're considered dispensable. I read about a company doing this microchipping in children several years ago. At the time there were some horrible child abduction/murder cases in the press, and somebody obviously spotted a marketing opportuntity. My thoughts then were that it would only be particularly paranoid and over-controlling parents who would go along with something like that. It seems repugnant to tag children as if they're possessions, like your car and your jewellry.

These days, I think our governments (particularly this one) have become so undemocratic, that I'd fear any system that allows people to be somehow controlled by computer software Microchipping thread in Netmums 424625.

As for mumsnet, I would probably be considered a 'leftie', but I'd be terrified to find myself amongst the harridens that seem to be in the majority on there. Like somebody else said, I'm not a member, but I like looking at it when I need a laugh, and I'd say I disagree with about 97% of what's written on there. I don't think politics come into it, unless it's the kind you find at the school gates.

The scarey thing is it will happen very subtely by indocrinating society that it is for our benefit. Have just read about a microchip that can give patients doses of drugs remotely ! This could easily become popular and then wide open to abuse. Its from an Australian Astra-Zeneca website :-

http://www.simply4doctors.com.au/current-news/au-current-news/S-889637?itemId=12975669

Makes me shudder, but then maybe I`m paranoid.
