All such cases can be seen standing inside the hole as the furious excavations relentlessly continue, often to the detriment of the nearby flora and with no concern for any approaching water main.

McStockholm Syndrome is an apparently paradoxical psychological phenomenon in which individuals express empathy and have positive feelings towards criminals, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the obvious lies believed by the victims, who essentially confuse bullshit with truth.

MacMunchausen abduction syndrome by proxy

MacMunchausen abduction syndrome by proxy is a form of child abuse in which a parent/s induces real or apparent symptoms of an abduction in a child.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

This syndrome almost always involves a parent staging the abduction of their child, then seeking police attention, press coverage and public funds for the search for the child. It is rare and poorly understood. The cause is unknown.

The parent may fake symptoms of abduction in their child by leaving the child unattended for prolonged periods whilst eating Tapas with friends, falsifying checks, secretly giving the child drugs to make the child placid, or using other tricks, such as interfering with doors and windows to make the child appear to have been 'taken'.

These children are often reported as missing with details that don't quite fit any known cases. Frequently, the public and police are made to suffer through unnecessary investigations, fundraising activities, summative overviews or other uncomfortable procedures.

The parent/s is usually very helpful in the public arena and is often appreciated by the media for the endless press oppportunities they provide. The parent is often seen as devoted and self-sacrificing, which can make law enforcement professionals unlikely to suspect the diagnosis of MacMunchausen abduction syndrome by proxy.

MacMunchausen abduction syndrome by proxy occurs because of psychological problems in the adult/s, and is generally a guilt and fear led behavior. The syndrome can be life-threatening for other child involved.


Symptoms
•
The child's 'abduction' does not fit a classical picture of abduction or does not fit together well.

•
The parent/s' 'grief' improves at home but reappears in public.

•
The parent/s overaact or are "too cold."

•
The parent/s is often involved in a large group of friends.



Signs and tests
•
Cadaver dog alerts used for investigative purposes do not make any sense.

•
The presence of discrepancies in the parent/s stories and those of their large group of friends cannot be accounted for.



Treatment

Once the syndrome is recognized, the child needs to be located and others removed from direct care of the parent/s. The affected parent/s should not be accused directly, but offered arguido status.

Because this is a form of child abuse, the syndrome must be reported to the authorities. Psychiatric counselling will be recommended for the parent/s involved, but since the disorder is rare, very little is known about effective treatment.

The cryptic meaning of macabre has only just sunk in! Yes, very good - a Scottish arbour (arbor in America) - a garden alcove with the sides and roof formed by trees or climbing plants.

To make it a good cryptic clue, I'd have added one word: "say."

This tells the reader that the word being sought sounds like another word.

ETA: You could also play on Scottish pronunciation and the French word for tree by using a phrase like, "losing/lost a rolled letter."
