Tariq Jahan found guilty and convicted of GBH, mindless violence and breaking mans jaw, and who admitted to lying to the police.
The same T Jahan that Cameron, McCann worshipper, praised at Pride of Britain awards 2011.
The same T Jahan that politicians, news groups, all media, all FAWNED over as being their new found HERO!
Perhaps the 'support your local thug' brigade MP's , media will now look a tad closer to ANY new found 'heroes' PAST actions before lavishing their new found 'bandwagon CAUSE' by publicly supporting them to the absolute exclusion of any other peoples views.
I will wager a bet that if T Jahans 'new sycophant friends' had known he was to be charged with GBH and lying to the police they might not have been so EAGER to be seen with him!
Maybe, NOW, the McCann sycophants, politicians, especially, will re-evaluate their support for the McCanns by actually LOOKING for themselves at available contradictory evidence.
There's a great deal of difference between 'praising' a local thug, like T Jahan, and being caught in covering up the possible death of a defenceless child!
START LOOKING AT THE AVAILABLE EVIDENCE, CAMERON, MILIBAND, CLEGG and MAY.
I'm sure there are lots of 'interns' who will gladly look through the files for you and advise you accordingly.
Some might even know where to get a barge pole!
The McCanns may be finished but you lot will go down with them if you do NOTHING!

He got away with a very light sentence because of that award. So, that's alright then! He did a Good Thing so we're going to let him off with this! Did you mow the lawn for your elderly neighbour last week? Well, take this £200 and do not go to jail!

Post  AnnaEsse Thu 5 Apr - 16:16

Jahan, who was found not guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent, was spared prison because of his "extraordinary position", according to the judge.

William Davis QC told him: "Ordinarily this would mean that you would go to prison for 12 months but this all happened last July and in August, as everybody in this court knows, you suffered the loss of one of your sons, which was desperate in itself.

"But more particularly, in the aftermath of this loss you took steps which in my judgment... probably prevented really serious disorder continuing in Birmingham."....

...........

.....................Jahan was said to have left his car and kicked and punched 34-year-old Sajjid Ali after accusing him of staring at his wife.

Mr Ali lost two teeth and suffered a double fracture to the jaw in the confrontation in the Hockley area of Birmingham on July 6 last year.

Jahan, from Winson Green, denied one charge of grievous bodily harm with intent and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He claimed he was acting in self-defence after Mr Ali head-butted him.

The court was told the pair got into an argument over Jahan sounding his car horn at a van blocking his path.

Mr Ali, who had been speaking to the van driver on the roadside at the time, was accused of mouthing something in an "aggressive manner".

Jahan said: "I asked are you Pakistani, Iraqi, Sikh, Hindu or Muslim, just to try to relate to him. He looked very similar to me and I suspect he was of Asian descent.

"And because he was a young man and he looked upset I was trying to calm him down."

Mr Ali said Jahan accused him of "staring at my missus".

"He punched me and it was on my forehead or somewhere, but I was totally blind. It went in one of my eyes and I just fell down. It was just bang, bang, bang on my head," said Mr Ali.

Jahan admitted he had initially lied to police about his involvement in the incident to protect his family.

"Once you have started with one lie you have to make up 1,000 lies to cover that one. Once I had started there was no turning back," he said.

His defence barrister Ali Naseem Bajwa QC maintained his client, who made no comment as he left court, was acting in self- defence and "was forced" to hit Mr Ali, something he regretted to this day.

The following month, Jahan's 21-year-old son Haroon and brothers Shazad Ali, 30, and Abdul Musavir, 31, were struck by a car and killed when disorder broke out close to their homes in Winson Green.

In court, it emerged Jahan had a previous conviction for false accounting and forgery and a conviction for conspiracy to rob in 1990.

He also received a caution for possession of cannabis in 2003 and a caution in 2004 for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, in which he had attacked his stepmother.

Yes, okay, point taken, but lets remember he lost his son. He spoke out after knowing he had lost his son. Maybe the reality and tragedy of death has turned his life around. Yes, perhaps he has got a very short fuse but his loss is not something I would wish on anyone. What he did, his words during the riots, prevented countless other deaths. Sometimes, it takes one to know one. This father has known the wrong side of the law and the wrong side of the law has, in turn, hit back at him with the force of a double decker bus, with the loss of his son in very tragic circumstances. Following that, he spoke out to prevent even more law breaking and death. He is not perfect, no far from it, and I would not call him a hero, but he is human, with human failings, many of them, but he is someone that dared to put a stop to more death and violence and he knows tragedy and heatbreak more than most. He did what no politician could do, he did not start these riots but he ended them. Credit where credits due and please, just leave him alone.

With his rich powerful friends and such a fine reputation for violence, false accounting, forgery, conspiracy and lying he's got a fair chance of being accepted as a member of Parliament.

Knuckles and head butts do seem to get the point over a lot quicker than mere words as far as parliamentary debates go, especially if fuelled by duty free, expense account alcohol in the Common's bar.

Yes very funny. This man has done a lot wrong in his life, that is true, but please please please, he has lost his son and he prevented other lives being lost. If the Muslim community had seeked their revenge for the killings of three young men in Birmingham, much blood would have been shed. He prevented all of that. If it has taken the loss of his son for this man to reform his ways, should we not applaud that?

What is this site all about? I do not understand the above posts. Are we trolls after all? This man has lost his son, his son was murdered, he put his grief to one side and called for calm. I live in the same city. Whatever this man has done in the past he has been punished for. It is what he did last year that we should concentrate on, and I believe his actions were genuine.

Point taken LJC, but he is not a pillar of virtue and should not be extolled as one. The muslim community are not the only ones who have lost people, Scottish, Irish, English, West Indian and American communities of all faiths have suffered through civil unrest.

Yes, and Scottish, Irish, English, West Indian, Welsh maybe, all of them were involved in the riots in one way or another, there were so many involved it crossed the boundaries of communities, but this man did more than anyone to end the riots that beset so many of our British cities. Do you think the rioters would have listened to an MP? No and neither would they listen to their community leaders. But they would listen to someone who was on their level, who knew what it was like to be on the wrong side of the law. Believe me, the riots would have run for much longer and the consequences would have been far reaching in view of the deaths in Birmingham, were it not for the actions of one man.

I am in no way putting him on a pedestal, but I do believe he has repaid society for all of his past wrongdoing by preventing further repercussions.

I agree he did what probably no MP or plea from either Cameron or Clegg would have been able to do but.....and there's the rub - do we ask people to account for their crimes or not? Does it not send out the wrong message and can we say others who commit crimes would not do good deeds to get a lighter sentence.

In my mind his award would be forever tainted anyway so perhaps he will pay this way.

I'm not denying he has suffered, but so have many, many others, who had no part in any of the civil unrest and had broken no laws. Many were unsung heroes of the riots, regularly putting themselves in harm's way of the thugs, saving both lives and property, emergency services personnel especially, yet they remain just that... anonymous.
I really doubt we'll see eye to eye on this subject LJC, so I'll say no more on it.

I fail to see any comparison with the McCanns.

Mr Jahan's speech was moving and dignified, and I agree with the Judge: He probably prevented a bloodbath in Birmingham. He also turned the tide in all the senseless rioting that was going on.

I can also see no parallel here. The McCanns have imo consistently lied and cheated, ruined peoples lives and livelihoods and are in the case of T.Bennett, still intend on bankrupting him.

Tariq Jahan at least seems to have an understanding of right and wrong and was unable to control his temper. Has no one here ever thrown a piece of crockery at the wall instead of hitting an infuriating person?
I used - when times were bad - have crockery standing by for just such an emergency. Can't recommend it too highly.

Quite so. This man has received a suspended prison sentence, 100 hours unpaid work requirement, and he must pay £1,000 compensation to his victim. Mr Jahan now wants his community to be his judge. Whatever wrongs he has committed in the past, he was punished for them in the past and paid the price. This latest conviction is the here and now, not in the past, and the here and now also incorporates the loss of his beloved son and his actions in the hours that followed and this was taken into account by the Judge. Mr Jahan spoke passionately and genuinely in the aftermath of his son's death and whatever one thinks of his past, you could see the sincerity in him when he spoke during the riots. The man had a broken heart and did not want anyone else to suffer as he had done. I think that is enough said.

For me, his redeeming factor is his owing up to lying, that once he had lied, he just carried on. One lie led to many. That is a very brave thing to say.

He has learned the hard way and tragedy has struck him down and made him realise that there is more to life. I judge him to be a man who has done much wrong in the past but he is not an evil man and I would not wish his life on anyone, he now suffers.
