Oh dear. I have trouble reconciling the clear intelligence and articulacy expressed above with the apparent inability of the same person(s) to be able to evaluate all the publicly available intelligence about Madeleine's disappearance and at least consider that they have been led a merry dance.

Dear Members,

We are calling for your support in targeting You Tube to have vile material removed from their website. We don't just want to send one or two complaints, we want to send a bulk within a 24 hour period. Our target for the 24 hour complaints period is Tuesday 26th February. On that day, with everything in place, we would like as many posters as possible to flag the material and send an email of complaint.

We were directed to the You Tube site a few days ago, regarding a really vile piece of video footage. We were astonished that You Tube allowed this to remain on their site and be viewed. In our opinion that sends the wrong message to millions of viewers. The video was of Madeleine talking from beyond the grave, asking Kate why she had killed her. Then we noticed other footage, just as vile, accusing Kate of killing Madeleine. It appears that in allowing this material to be viewed, You Tube supports it. People are openly accusing Kate and Gerry of killing Madeleine without any concrete evidence. What is more disturbing is that by their actions these people are promoting hate behaviour towards the McCanns. You Tube's inability to effectively judge material before allowing publication on their website, is allowing people to spread hate and lies about the case. Whatever happened to human decency and the principle of 'innocent till proven guilty in a court of law'? You Tube should review their publications criteria regarding this type of material because, currently, it's a free for all.

Here is what we are hoping to achieve with your help.
*Find as much unacceptable video footage on You Tube as possible and compile a list. At the bottom of this email are some of the links to footage we have found so far.
*Encourage as many people as possible to register at You Tube for the sole purpose of flagging this material and then e-mailing them a complaint.
*As already stated, we are hoping to make our voices heard over a 24 hour period, so as to target youtube with many hundreds/thousands of complaints. The date is set for Tuesday 26 February 2008.

Hi Lillyofthevalley, that was the instruction we received in February 2008. The people activating these complaints were of the proMcCann persuasion, and I am ashamed to say that I was one of them.

There is no shame whatsoever attached to being deceived, albeit briefly - it has happened to a fair few people, some of whom haven't the guts and/or common sense to see they might have been taken in.

I would imagine that SY have access to all the files, including all those that the are not in the public domain, so it will be apparent to them just who is spinning a story.

The problem is, will they (SY) be allowed to challenge the McCanns' version or will the gagging placed on the story by Blair/Brown continue to protect them?

The Madeleine Mccann case has to be the ultimate research tool for sociologists: Never before have we witnessed so many inexplicable aspects to a case which on the face of things should be relatively simple - a child is abducted from her bed and needs to be found. Instead, a complex, intricate macabre dance between police, press and forums has obliterated the real child, the real tragedy and grown into a self perpetuating monster.

The face of this monster has become increasingly twisted and distorted as time has gone by. Its grotesque visage has now replicated itself across the internet in the form of disturbing and degrading videos on You tube about Madeleine and her parents that have no place in a civilised society. When a missing four year child becomes a tool for sick amusement through the anonymity of the internet we need to question how far free speech and freedom of expression can be stretched before it becomes a habitual form of attacking the vulnerable and the defenceless. Thankfully, the recent closure of the Mirror’s Madeleine forum, which had become a refuge for such people has given many hope that there is a line in the sand. The only possible motivation of those that contaminate the net with such detritus is a narcissistic need for notoriety. We need to cut off the oxygen that feeds their hunger.

This situation has arisen due to the vacuum created by the lack of any real information in the case; a vacuum that has been filled by rumours, leaks and misinformation in the Press. Madeleine has become a caricature in the Media, and the sad consequences of this can be seen in full technicolor across You Tube. Freedom comes at a price and it seems Madeleine and her family are paying a very high price. Madeleine’s grandmother, Susan Healey, has recently launched a scathing attack on the Press, describing their treatment as ‘like being crucified day to day’. What has happened to us a society when the victims of a crime become tormented for the sake of entertainment and increased sales figures?

This case has opened up the eyes of many as far as the Press is concerned, and their pursuit of profit before truth and integrity has meant that many of us have chosen to make a stand by now refusing to buy newspapers at all. The Press may have shot themselves in the foot as a result of their Madeleine coverage. Their coverage has also mobilised people like ourselves to look more closely at what’s actually being written and what is being unleashed on the internet, and as a result we are no longer prepared to sit back and say or do nothing. Ordinary people are now drawing their own lines in the sand.

One such line concerns the vile videos on You Tube that use Madeleine and her family for some form of sadistic self-gratification.

‘Evil thrives when good men do nothing’

One internet forum has decided that doing nothing was no longer an option and has decided to take direct action to have these videos removed. Like minded groups have also joined this campaign and we hope that others will join us in righting this wrong.

What we are calling for is not a curtailing of freedom of speech but an enforcement of laws already in place to protect individuals from defamation. In addition, the family have already received death threats and any video that degrades and dehumanises them and portrays them as ’murderers’ in such a highly charged, emotional way has the potential to incite violence towards them. No one who advocates free speech would agree that it gives people an unconditional right to incite hatred or to put others at risk of harm.

We therefore hope you will join us in our campaign to get these videos removed and draw your own line in the sand.

How they were able to let the world know they were arguidos and that K had been "offered a deal" remains something of a mystery.

Hi tanzi, I sent this out to about 200 newspapers/journals, all small time places but nevertheless I was only one of many who were sending them in the 24 hour period.
At the same time as well as this and the video blitz there was an My Space blast but I couldn't do that so didn't take part.
As you say it is all about K and G and very little about Madeleine and I am ashamed to admit that I was taken in by this spin as many more like me were, many who now, like me, have seen the light you could say.

There is absolutely no need to feel ashamed about anything. You responded to what you believed in and understood at that time. It seems i was more cynical than most, and in the event that my thoughts and beliefs about certain aspects of this case are shown to be incorrect then i also shall acknowledge them, but i will not feel ashamed. jimo.

I am not one to feel anger towards the rest of the family. Even if they 'know', most people have 'been there' where we are in denial or choose to protect our loved ones.

Only those complicit in faking the abduction and hiding her body should feel guilt imo.

Personally, although I do not admire any of the T7 if they helped in the 'abduction' I prefer to not see them as 'guilty' of the original crime unless/until I learn otherwise.

They may just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, made mistaken decisions and could not turn back. They suffer without question as far as I am concerned.

Personally, I feel if they had 'a soft place to land' if they came clean, there would be a greater chance of learning the truth from them. Right now they know they would live in shame for the rest of their lives.

I missed that, yes, the tone of the letter is reasonable and educated. Certainly on a par with the call for deleting the videos on YouTube. Same person?

I'm thinking of some governmental person behind the scenes who wrote both letters. Someone who was preparing the case against the press? A few months later the process to get a settlement from up to 11 newspapers seems to have started.
I've seen one or two 'hate' videos but quite some time ago. Unpleasant and they don't give any real information. Just the straight interviews of the McCanns are much more revealing.

What is more interesting imo, is that this reasoned defense of the McCanns seems to have been limited to this short period of time. After that it was back to Clarrie.

It is partly based on fact in any case, since I did see one or two 'hate' videos. Death threats will happen in these cases - Amaral got them too and in his case, his dog was found dead.
