Maddie: Witness statement of French couple is one of the leads
by Felícia Cabrita and Margarida Davim
9th May 2012
Rogério Alves, the McCanns’ lawyer in Portugal says that he does not know the content of the investigative hypotheses of the Maddie case. Cautiously, the lawyer reminds us that “the case can only be re-opened if there is very concrete evidence”.
At this time, Rogério Alves, states that the family would not oppose a reconstruction of the night of the disappearance – “I already went once to say that the parents would be available”, he says, but equally the family will not request it. “So many years later, what possible interest could a reconstruction have?”, he asks.
SOL has established that one of the pieces of information sent by the English police to the PJ summarises another witness statement, from a French couple In Nerja (Spain) which relates of having “spoken with a man in the street who indicated that Madeleine was being looked after by a substitute mother” (adoptive).
Even with vague leads, Maddie’s parents are determined not to let the story die. Last Wednesday, Kate and Gerry gave a press conference in London, attended by more than 50 journalists from all over the world. The couple used the occasion to present what they judge to be a new image of their daughter – who, if she were still alive, would be aged eight.
“There is a real possibility that Madeleine could still be found alive”, stated Kate in an interview to Lusa.

Thanks Ann

Above statement is interesting on so many levels.
1) Alves has approached PJ to say (once) that parents would be available? - Was that in 2007 when they were compelled to attend as were suspects
2) The family will not oppose - but what about the friends of the family - The tapas 7?
3) Why will the family not request a reconstruction? This would provide new evidence and reopen the case for them. Which if course is what K & G McCann constantly claim they want. But do they?

Re: Nerja again
If the 195 "investigative oipportunities" consist of what someone told someone in the street or on the Clapham Omnibus it is easy to see why the Portugese AG has been dismissive.
