It is all bollocks. The PJ won't dig up the drive unless the case is re-opened. The house was sold years ago, so who lives there now? I'm sure if anyone bought a house and a bunch of people wanted to come and dig up their drive they would object unless there was an official warrent. It is just crap that is put in the papers to sell more copies, and it's working

Surely Robert Murat's mother still lives there? That's what I've read elsewhere.

Yesterday on a Portuguese afternoon tv program (As tardes da Julia) it said the house was sold 'years' ago. With stories like this, there is 1% truth and 99% speculation. It sells papers and gets people like us talking

Yes. The cash cow would be well and truly milked wouldn't it? Apart from an appeal for money for a grave, there would be a concert and memorial service, then the coffers would be closed.

I think this has been posted already; according to this report, Mrs Murat still lives in the house.

http://www.algarveresident.com//0-47823/algarve/exclusive-interview-with-robert-murat

The story is a load of baloney in my view but let's wait and see what happens.

Thank you for the link NBY. Parents of children missing in Algarve in favor of digging in the backyard of Murat Icon_flower

Bet your right it probably is aload of baloney...but there has been far worse in this case. At least it would put the minds at rest of the parents with missing children at ease.

Maybe the ideal place ..after the checks had been made.

To me the story is on a level with all the silly ones from people claiming to have seen Madeleine but not doing anything about it for months. Still, with this one, it will be possible to prove it one way or the other.

The big difference between this and the spurious "sightings" is he only did the search last month & has sent it to both the PJ & SY before going to the media.

He stated in an interview wanted to get the media involved to protect himself.

I really don't know what to make of
this latest claim, but I do know that
team Mccann darn't provide it with
extra credence by requesting that a
dig occur. If they did, it would destroy
their claim/story of stranger abduction.
What stranger, impulsive peado or
other desperate culprit goes to the
trouble to bury a body? I suspect that
most stranger child snatchers/killers
'dump' their victims soon after and
with a minimum or no attempt to hide
their deeds. If this does prove to be
the remains of Maddie then it must
indicate with a high degree of certainty
that the child was known to whoever
seen fit to bury her, and had good
reason to go to such trouble.
All just my opinion.

Didn't Robert Murat say in his interview with the Algarve Resident that Birch couldn't have been in the grounds because his mother has those two big dogs? We know that Robert hasn't lived there for years, but why would he say that about the dogs if his mother wasn't still living there?

Thanks. I had replied to a previous message before I had seen yours.

As for the quote from the McCanns about there being no truth, this reminds me of a quote on Radio 4 the other day. Someone was quoting a philosopher whose name I didn't pick up. Paraphrasing, you haven't proved something when you haven't questioned it. So, unless the Portuguese police have absolute proof that there isn't a body beneath the new driveway, Birch's statements have not been 'questioned.' If the case needs to be reopened for the ground to be dug up, then I think that's what should happen. I don't think there is a body there, unless it's a small animal, but a 'cavity,' in the ground could mean all sorts of things: tree roots for example.

It was Júlia Pinheiro who said that the house had been sold and I believed her. Now I think that she must have gotten it confused with the sale of 5A.

I honestly don't see how anyone could get in the garden of the house with two Serra da Estrela dogs guarding the place. They are huge and would frighten anyone away. Most of the ground in the Algarve is hard as rock and it is not possible to dig up anything with your usual shovel or without making a lot of noise.

The 'cavity' could be as a result of numerous innocent explanations I suppose.

I have no knowledge of how these machines operate in the slightest and what they highlight, although I am aware that the PJ also had the same type of GPR machine and used it in the Murats garden without any results back in May 2007.

The cavity does seem rather large when you consider its underneath a garden path however as you say, there could be many explanations for this including old drainage pipes for example.

He entered the property at night at least once therefore perhaps the dogs were kept in at night. In all he entered the property 4 times I gather and for all we know the dogs may well have barked I suppose.

Parents of children missing in Algarve in favor of digging in the backyard of Murat Empty Re: Parents of children missing in Algarve in favor of digging in the backyard of Murat

Post  Bobsy Sat 7 Jul - 15:00

It is common practice in my area for houses to be protected by dogs but the owners only visit at the weekends just leaving large dogs to roam within the fences with enough water and food , if they are lucky, to last until the next visit.
I am not inferring that Mrs Murat would do the same, just to point out that here in my area of Andalucia it is very common.
And re the digging of ground. Sadly in the night one of our little dogs died and hubby has spent 3 hours digging a grave in concrete hard ground. A spade/shovel was only used to lift up the broken ground. This first being broken down with a pickaxe and a mattock. So not just as easy as planting a shrub in the UK.

I may be mistaken Bobsy but do you have a lovely little dog called 'Wendy' ?

You're quite right and its a possibility her dogs were left out all night and having looked at just how overgrown parts of the large garden actually were, it could be possible that someone was in there undetected.

Good point regarding soil. I suspect any hole dug here at the moment would swiftly become a pond what with all the rain however on reflection I can recall Mr A mentioning something in his book with regards to how hard it was to dig holes.

I am quite sure the dogs would have been left outside all night. This is from Robert Murat's interview with the 'Algarve Resident.'

Referring to the photographs published by Correio da Manhã, which show Birch in Jenny Murat’s garden, Robert said he didn’t think there was any way the man could have entered the property as his mother has two large Serra da Estrela dogs that are kept outside as guard dogs.

It's not unusual in the area where I live in the UK for people to keep guard dogs, which live outside. Often they have kennels to shelter in and they just live outside. I would have thought that night time would be the most important time for guard dogs to be guarding and that is why they live out there.

They also tend to have very good hearing and I'm sure they'd hear somebody sneaking around in the undergrowth.

And yet if we are to believe SBs vids, he is shown as being in the garden with his GPR machine without the dogs in sight so either they were inside, they didn't hear him, JM simply ignored their barks or they were unable to access that part of the garden.

Goodness knows.
