I feel sorry for the poor baby...as soon as it pops it's head out it's life wont be his/her own.

I wonder if it is a girl, her middle name will be 'Diana'?

Morning kitti, didn't Kate let slip a while ago that it was a girl? I think that is why the Queen changed Accsession rules.

I believe the accession rules were changed well before Kate was pregnant. The Queen, I believe, has no authority to change the accession rules, it has to be done by parliament imo.

Hi stranger, how are you. as far as I remember the rules were only changed recently to allow a Female to become Monarch and thought at the time the Family already knew the sex of the baby. It was designed to ensure Williams progeny would have precedence over Harry and any progeny he would have.

Daily Telegraph 28th October 2011

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/8854981/Centuries-old-rule-of-succession-in-British-Royal-family-scrapped-by-Commonwealth.html

Centuries-old rule of primogeniture in Royal Family scrapped
Female members of the Royal Family are to be given equality with men in the rules of succession to the throne, meaning if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child is a girl, she can become Queen even if subsequent children are sons.

The historic constitutional changes were agreed unanimously today by the 16 nations of which Queen Elizabeth II is monarch.
The 16 "realms", including the UK, Canada and Australia, also agreed to scrap outdated laws which ban the spouse of a Roman Catholic from taking the throne.
The changes were announced by David Cameron, the Prime Minister, at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, attended by the Queen, in Perth, Australia.
Mr Cameron said the historic rules were "at odds with the modern countries that we have become".
Announcing the proposed changes, he said: "Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen."

Panda, there wasn't a speedy change in the rules. It was accepted by all Commonwealth countries in 2011.

I guess because they're just reminding readers that the law has changed now that the royal baby is about to be born.

It could be argued that the greatest Monarchs of both England and Scotland were Queens, rather than Kings. The present Queen, Queen Victoria, Queen Mary of Scotland and Queen Elizabeth of England. Also a series of Queens has worked out just fine for the Dutch.

Yes , maybe they didn't want to risk any more abdications if a Male were appointed , but know Female Queens can be relied upon to do their duty.

Havn't you seen it Iris ? They are asking people who knit bootees and matinee jackets etc not to send them to Kate because she will be inundated with babywear. Instead they should send them to findmadeleine where their experienced Staff will sell them and the proceeds used to set up a fund for a bodyguard in case anyone thinks of abducting the Heir to the throne, they are very experienced in finding the right people.

Royal baby: relaxed William plays polo as world waits for news
The wait for news of the royal baby is causing tension and excitement across the nation, with office workers holding sweepstakes to predict the child’s name and bookmakers wrongly predicting that he or she would be born on Sunday.

However, at least one person appears to be thoroughly relaxed about the impending arrival of the third in line to the throne.

The Duke of Cambridge left his nine months-pregnant wife on Sunday to play a charity polo match with his brother nearly 100 miles away and showed no signs of any worries as he laughed and joked with his fellow players.

His calm demeanour raised speculation that the Duchess’s due date, which has not been confirmed but was reported to have been on Saturday, may be later than thought.

The Duke now has a few more days off before he must return to work as an RAF search-and-rescue helicopter pilot based at RAF Valley on Anglesey, and is expected to stay at his wife’s side for as long as he can.

His father, the Prince of Wales, also seems to be taking a no-nonsense approach to the birth of his first grandchild.

He and the Duchess of Cornwall are going ahead with a pre-planned trip to Cornwall this week that will take them to Bude on Monday and Lostwithiel on Wednesday.

They are not believed to have made any advance arrangements to have special transportation such as a helicopter on hand to speed them back to London once the Duchess of Cambridge goes into labour.

A source said they would make a decision about whether to cut short their visit to Cornwall if the baby arrives while they are away, but assuming that there are no complications they are thought to want to fulfil their official duties if at all possible.

The Queen is pressing ahead with plans to visit Cumbria on Wednesday. She is also due to attend the start of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s cricket ground on Thursday.

The Duke played alongside his brother, Prince Harry, in the annual Jerudong Trophy match at Cirencester Park Polo Club in Gloucestershire yesterday (Sun).

Wearing a white and purple chequered polo shirt, the Duke cooed over a toddler who came to visit him on her father's shoulders before the game.

After the match, which the royal brothers’ team lost, a visibly hot Duke chatted with representatives of their charities. Looking at his ease, he laughed as he was introduced to each and happily posed for pictures with them.

His cousin, Zara Phillips, who is herself three months pregnant, on Sunday competed in show jumping trials at Brightling Park in Robertsbridge, East Sussex.

The Duchess of Cambridge was said to be staying with her parents in Bucklebury, Berkshire, while her husband was away playing polo.

She is due to give birth at the private Lindo wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, but there are contingency plans for her to be taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading if she is out of the capital when she goes into labour.

A member of the media reads a book while waiting outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital (Reuters)

Her parents, Carole and Michael, were seen to be nervously checking their phones when they attended one of Andy Murray’s matches at Wimbledon earlier this month.

They are likely to receive the call telling them that their daughter is in labour from the Duchess’s private secretary, Rebecca Deacon, although the Duke also carries a mobile phone and he may also update his parents-in-law from the hospital.

Among those most eagerly awaiting the baby’s arrival are Alan Farthing and Marcus Setchell, the royal gynaecologists due to perform the delivery, who have stopped drinking and cleared their personal diaries so they can be on standby around the clock.
