From the Mirror Online, July 20, "Madeleine McCann: British detectives to arrive at scene 'within days' to follow up new leads."

"Officers from Scotland Yard travelling to the scene could interview witnesses and suspects, search properties and even make arrests."

Sorry I'm no good at copying entire article. I suppose "even make arrests" will compete with the attention being given to the impending Royal birth. (LOL)

Madeleine McCann: British detectives to arrive at scene 'within days' to follow up new leads
20 Jul 2013 00:00

Officers from Scotland Yard travelling to the scene could interview witnesses and suspects, search properties and even make arrests
British detectives looking for missing Madeleine McCann could arrive in Portugal within days to follow up a string of new leads.
Officers from Scotland Yard will travel to the scene of the crime, potentially interviewing witnesses and suspects, searching properties and even making arrests.
It comes after the Crown Prosecution Service yesterday confirmed it had written a letter to Portuguese judges on Thursday asking for permission to gather evidence, with the help of the local police.
The letter is believed to name a number of suspects and witnesses living in Portugal who officers want to talk to over the coming months.
It is thought to outline possible offences being probed, including child trafficking, kidnap and murder.
Madeleine went missing while she was on holiday in the Algarve with parents Kate and Gerry and her twin siblings six years ago.
The Met said two weeks ago that it wanted to trace 38 potential suspects across five countries, having reviewed the case for two years.
It announced a full criminal inquiry and Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is leading Operation Grange, said: “The review has given us new thinking, new theories, new evidence and new witnesses.”
He added: “We remain committed to finding out what happened to Madeleine. Everything we do is utterly focused on her best interests. We continue to believe there is a possibility she is alive. We remain in close contact with Kate and Gerry McCann.”
Last night Scotland Yard refused to be drawn on when the team of detectives would fly out but a CPS spokesman confirmed yesterday: “The letter has been sent.”
Alison Saunders, the chief crown prosecutor for London, and her colleague Jenny Hopkins, head of the CPS complex casework unit, have already discussed how to obtain the evidence with Portuguese lawyers.
Launching a full investigation abroad is rare and such probes are tightly governed.
It will be a joint inquiry between the two countries and authorities in capital Lisbon insisted “the British authorities cannot act on their own in Portugal”.
Madeleine was almost four when she disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007.
Scene: The family's apartment in Praia da Luz
She had been asleep in the apartment with the younger twins while her parents dined out with their friends nearby.
The original Portuguese inquiry was shelved in 2008. British detectives have visited the country 16 times in the past two years but the probe could not be re-opened unless there was significant new evidence.
Prime Minister David Cameron ordered the Met to review the case in 2011 and a team examined files from Portuguese police, British agencies and the McCanns’ private detectives.
The discovery of new leads convinced the Met there was a chance of solving the case, leading to Thursday’s International Letter of Request.
When the probe was confirmed, a spokesman for the McCanns said: “It is a big step forward in establishing what happened and, hopefully, towards bringing whoever is responsible for Madeleine’s abduction to justice.”
______________________________________________________________________________

Well, now you know what the McCanns have come up with to distract from the Royal birth!
Kate McCann (KM) will do ANYTHING to try to dislodge the real KM from the front page!
Just a thought:
Will all those 'villians' the Met are gonna sort out, just be sitting in their houses, waiting for the 6 o'clock 'knock' or do you think they might have done a runner?
Nothing like getting a few days 'notice' prior to a raid!

He added: “We remain committed to finding out what happened to Madeleine." Past tense, implication that when we find out it will close the case. I.e. no living Maddie.
"Everything we do is utterly focused on her best interests." SY weren't investigating but reviewing for over two years, was that in her interest if she is alive?
"We continue to believe there is a possibility she is alive. We remain in close contact with Kate and Gerry McCann." Continue to believe, a possibility of being alive, despite evidence of 100% reliable dogs whose evidence has been accepted in court - several times without the presence of a body.

Being in close contact with the McCanns - they're very busy you know, as they were on the night of the 3rd. Just as well that SY is looking because they just never had the time.

Now where is that large bucket with the white stuff? British detectives to arrive at scene 'within days' 645452

"Coming months"? So, no great rush then? And the letter of request went off just a couple of days ago but the British police expect to be on the scene in days? I guess they're expecting the Portuguese to act a lot more quickly than the Brits did with the rogatory letters.

Shouldn't they be applying for European Arrest Warrants if they want to arrest anyone?

Well there is supposed to be this highly dangerous person who abducts three year old children from their beds. But the police are going to question suspects over the next few months. Can't be worried too much that he strikes again then.

Or that Madeleine is alive and living with her abductors, who of course are going to stay right where they are!

Well perhaps this wicked person is not so quick these days. As he had to be in and out within about half a minute. And also perhaps the invisibility cloak isn't working so well. What a fiasco this case has been from day one.

Well Mary, we certainly have a selection of wicked persons to choose from. The; Fat, thin, short, tall, bald, long haired, unshaven, bearded, eggman or maybe the spice girl look alike the Australian millionairess on a yacht, who somehow managed to resembled a Turkish gipsy living in a Wild Portuguese village according to super sleuth Dippy Dave. Or even the cancer riddled super paedo, travelling in a white van and push chair through Europe or the half naked long haired Frenchman seen with Madeleine walking along a road? Or perhaps the gentleman in Brazil with his granddaughter? Whoever this wicked abductor is they must wear their underpants/knickers over their trousers, because Superman would struggle to keep to the Tapas timetable...

You are right, it is a fiasco, but based on a Brian Rix Farce...

More of the same at the Mail Online. "Investigators said they have no prime suspects........." after the article says they "could potentially interview suspects, search properties and even make arrests".

"The shambolic Portuges inquiry" reference really gets my goat!!!!!

Hello everyone

I think there should be a difference seen between what the police are saying and what the newspapers are saying. Some of the quoted comments that are suggested to be the police are really the newspaper.

Regarding the police, I think if they had some people they wanted to see they would not make a statement about it before going. This would not make sense. So I think it is just a no meaning statement to explain why they are going there.

The part that will always be a mystery for me is that the police must know that the dogs and DNA can be reliable evidence or clues. Therefore, even if it is not enough for a court, these things must make the police think. So I would be very interested to know how the police involved really think about this.

No Police officer would dismiss the findings of the dogs, and they also wouldn't dismiss the discrepancies in statements, changing of statements, lies that have been told, body language etc.
