If I were the crèche man I would sue the Sun for calling me scruffy. How hurtful and unhelpful. He is a real life person, with feelings, after all. Andy Redwood said so.

Perhaps GM was the first Brit and Clarrie the second ?

Yes I vaguely remember this oddball, weirdo - call him what you will - sauntering across the front page of the Sun some 6 years ago. The pic is taken from the cover of the album "You'll never walk alone" by Gerry and the Casefakers.

That sketch, for me, probably represents a "scruffy" man for those people who have block-paved gardens, sheets and duvet covers that have creases you could cut yourself on, and manicured lawns! For me, he would look like he may be an artist or a musician! For the clean-shaved, who dress their clean little kids in Next and Monsoon, he's probably a weirdo!  

I'm with you on this one, Anna.
Being an arty type with a taste for lived-in clothes and unregimented gardens, I reckon Scruffy Man is a guy I could hang out with.

My ex-husband used to think my friends were weirdos! There was the group of artists and writers, one of whom had illustrated a Claire Rayner book, who were living in a fortified farmhouse that had no running water and no electricity! It was an amazing house! I've always been drawn to eccentric types, folks who wouldn't want to be "trendy," since that means following a trend, the people with wildlife-friendly gardens!

Wasn't it Gerry and the P*sstakers?

He looks like my ex-neighbour. An honest, decent man who made a poor living as a woodcutter, and who quite often came home looking scruffy after several weeks living in a forest in a workman's caravan.

Oh, and who was also terribly injured in the Falklands where he was serving as a Royal Marine, for Queen and Country.

A SCRUFFY long-haired man tried to lure away a small child in Portugal just WEEKS before Madeleine McCann was kidnapped, a witness claims.

He approached a British holidaymaker saying he was a charity collector — while a sinister accomplice watched from a short distance away.
Cops probing Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance now believe the man — also described by TWOother witnesses and similar to police images issued in 2008 — may be key to their investigation.
The Brit holidaymaker, who asked not to be named, said the drugged-up Portuguese man approached her and her five-year-old daughter in Vilamoura — 30 miles from where Madeleine was taken.
She said: “I knew there was something wrong with him, I just wanted to get away from him.
“I felt he was trying to usher us down a cobbled street.
“I could see his accomplice sitting a way away watching us. He was pretending that he wasn’t with the other guy, I could tell.”
The woman, from the North of England, later reported the incident to private detectives hired by Madeleine’s family.
They revealed a villa owner had reported thesame men trying to lure away his daughter in Vilamoura.
His sighting came a month before Madeleine was snatched from her Praia da Luz holiday apartment on May 3, 2007.

And The Sun has learned a THIRD witness has been quizzed three times by British detectives over her account of seeing a similar man.
Gran Gail Cooper saw a weirdo on the beach in Praia da Luz staring at a blond boy two days before Madeleine vanished.
The same man later knocked on her door collecting money for charity “for an orphanage”.
Gail, 56, of Newark, Notts, saw the oddball a third time lurking behind kids from a holiday complex.
She said: “He was very intimidating at my door. He kept waving his hands and staring. My grandchildren were in the pool. I just wanted him to go.
“It wasn’t until later that I made the connection to Maddie.”
Last month cops made a Crimewatch appeal to trace bogus charity workers seen around Praia da Luz.
One theory is that Madeleine was taken by an organised crime gang who “cased” her apartment in the days before.

Weirdo is a very handy, catch all word for the tabloids, isn't it. Implies a lot, but says nothing.

Maybe the man was looking at the child thinking what a weirdo that child is. Of course that is not allowed, that would make the man a weirdo, just thoughts alone can make someone a weirdo.

Some might say at least one member of the Tapas group was a weirdo, but that's not allowed either, doctors can't be weirdos apparently. Mrs Gaspar might beg to differ though.
