Re: Ukraine crisis....it is looking very serious now
The latest report is that the situation is very tense, 200 Trucks parked near the border of Luhansk. Putin insists it is food etc but he has not agreed to the UN inspection and if he ignores the UN and enters Luhansk he is violating Ukraine soil .
This is all tit-for-tat Politics and started because Russia did not want Ukraine to join the EU. Putin is powerful but with the sanctions imposed and now Russians denied so much food maybe the Government will intervene.

Heavy shelling heard in Donetsk
http://news.sky.com/story/1318536/heavy-shelling-heard-in-rebel-held-donetsk
"The shelling follows the resignation of pro-Russian separatist leader Valery Bolotov, head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic.
Mr Bolotov said he had been injured and could no longer continue his role.
His resignation came as a Russian aid convoy resumed its journey toward Ukraine, taking the road leading south towards rebel-held Luhansk.
The convoy of roughly 262 vehicles had been parked at a military depot in the southern Russian city of Voronezh since late on Tuesday."
Apparently there are talks between Russia and the UN

The convoy is still heading towards Luhansk showing Red cross Mission on the trucks which the red cross say is untrue. If they go over the Border, Kiev says they are trespassing aand will take action. The situation is very tense and I suspect Putin is taking advantage of the Iraq crisis distracting the U.S.

The news last night showed a truck opening up to show foodstuffs.......presumably all the trucks will be opened up and if no weapons are found Kiev will have to apologise, but Russia was wrong to try to cross the Border and Putin is still the Villain.

Rebels shoot down Kiev mig 29 Fighter Jet

The Pilot bailed out but this is an example of Russia supplying Arms and Russian experts to teach the Ukrainian Rebels. If the U.S. wasn't so tied up with the Iraq crisis Obama would be investigating this.

Re: Ukraine crisis....it is looking very serious now
The Ukraine Government has made it known they want to join NATO. Putin is not bothered about threats by the EU because this will never be published in the Russian Press. The Russian economy is in a poor state anyway and Putin knows that the European Countries using Gazprom will be worried with Winter looming. This is a Reporters' view of the situation but Putiin is not a popular PM and if the sanctions bite and the
Oligarks turn against him, he could be ousted.

Excerpt from Politico Now
By ADAM SNEED | 8/31/14 11:26 AM EDT
A former American ambassador to Russia says the conflict between Russia and Ukraine can be solved easily, but an agreement hinges on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to negotiate.
“This is easy. This is not like a lot of other conflicts around the world,” Michael McFaul said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
McFaul said the solution is for Ukraine to create a more decentralized government in the eastern part of the country and to accept the Russian language in an official capacity in the region.
“I think the government in Kiev would be willing to negotiate along those lines,” said McFaul, who served as ambassador from 2012 to 2014. “A deal is ready to be made, but Putin isn’t ready to negotiate.”
Putin believes he can use military force to get everything he wants in Ukraine, McFaul said, adding that Europe and the United States must persuade him that military force won't work.
