If one of the reasons Special Branch met the McCanns on the apron at East Midland airport then took them home, was because there was a possibility of them being attacked, the McCanns would have been taken to a safe house. Let's face it, there was less chance of the McCanns being physically attacked at East Midland airport than there was in Rothley. Once Special Branch had chauffeured the McCanns home, offloaded their luggage and took it into their home, they were quite happy to leave the McCanns to their own devices.

Once Special Branch had left the McCanns at home, the McCanns were out and about doing what they did best and that was peddling their lies to anyone gullible enough to believe their lies. The McCanns took holidays, took their children out and about in full glare of the media and they were quite happy being in the media spotlight, until the Leveson inquiry began.

The McCanns only started whinging about media intrusion, when the Leveson inquiry began. I'll hazard a guess and say they would have claimed compensation for having their phones hacked, if the 'Pink One' had not revealed to the media, that their phones hadn't been hacked.

If they had been under threat from physical attacks, then you can bet your life we would have heard about it, if not from the McCanns themselves, the 'Pink One' and Gerry's mouthy sister Philomena, would have made sure that it was brought into the public eye.

Robert Murat's ex wife, had to move house because of threats against her young daughter. There was absolutely no proof that her daddy was involved with Madeleine's disappearance, but it didn't stop the cranks from threatening her. Special Branch didn't rush to the child's mother, when her daughter had those threats made against her, but then why would they? When the reason they met the McCanns was nothing to do with them being physically attacked.

In my opinion, Special Branch met the McCanns and took them home from East Midland airport, for no other reason than the McCanns had to be kept sweet, in case they spilled the beans. Keeping the McCanns sweet, was the reason the McCanns were allowed home against the PJ's wishes, with no restrictions placed on them, given a police escort to the Algarve airport and given special treatment on the plane home.

I did say in my post that I felt it was about intelligence gathering as well as protection. áSpecial Branch escort many people but are not with them 24/7. áBut I do think it was more about intelligence. áWe do not know who they are with when they leave their house of their own accord or who is watching them. áIf Special Branch were used as a one off it would make no sense at all. áIf the McCanns are to be kept sweet, why not all the time? áWho is keeping them sweet when they are out shopping or taking the twins to school or when Gerry is at work. áWhy do they only need to be kept sweet on a trip home from Portugal?

Two excellent posts there, Kathybelle. I agree with every word you have said about McCann protection.

agree with kathybelle. whilst I understand your reply LJC and the potential reasons for M15s presence, how do we know they are not still being "looked after". there is a post on here somewhere which I have previously referred to where a person travelling on a ferry saw the McCs and "their minders". could they still be receiving protection from M15 whilst out and about.
