I READ AN ARTICLE IN GUARDIAN ABOUT THEM AND CHRISTOPHER JEFFERRIES SIGNING A PETITION SAYING DAVID CAMERON SHOULD PREVENT PRESS ABUSES IN WHICH YNFOUNDED ACCUSATIONS ARE MADE.
PRESS SHOULD BE FINED IF UNTRUE THINGS ARE SAID.
THINK IT IS SAME STORY.

So did I, Badboy, and there was a particularly grotty photo of the McCanns with it, and a better one of Christopher Jefferies, for whom I do feel sorry. Well... you would hardly expect the McCanns to support quality investigative journalism and free speech, would you? No wonder they are lobbying the govt to bring in some further regs to muzzle both. Fortunately I think John Wittingdale may be able to hold them off.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/gerry-mccann-grilled-bbc-breakfasts-7698152

Gerry McCann grilled by BBC Breakfast's Louise Minchin as viewers ask 'where's your Maddie appeal?'

Maddie McCanns' father Gerry was interviewed by the BBC Breakfast team about his open letter to the Prime Minister regarding The Leveson Inquiry

Gerry McCann was grilled by BBC Breakfast's Louise Minchin earlier today, following an open letter to Prime Minister David Cameron about The Leveson Inquiry.

The McCanns and victims of the hacking scandal signed an open letter to Cameron addressing the fact that a key part of the Royal Charter agreement, introduced after the 2012 findings of The Leveson Enquiry, has been approved by Parliament but has not yet come into law.

McCann was adamant that if nothing is done then the Inquiry would have been a "waste of time".

Meanwhile, viewers took to Twitter to ask why Gerry wasn't appealing for his daughter who went missing in 2007.

hen asked about why he was one of the signatories of the open letter, he said that the proposed law for reforms was 'never optional'.

He said: "I think it's about exasperation really, Section 40 isn't optional. It was never intended to be optional and there is no reason why the Government are delaying.

"We have corresponded with the Prime Minister privately and we have spoken to the Culture Secretary [The Rt Hon John Whittingdale MP] on two separate occasions and have been dismayed by his attitude.

"The Prime Minister promised us that the victims would remain at the centre of the Leveson reforms and we feel that our views have been pushed aside."

Just over four years ago the McCanns met the Prime Minister and got a personal assurance that press regulators would have 'real teeth'.

The Government has decided to postpone section 40.

McCann added: "The press are always going to say that they are at a disadvantage. They already have the odds stacked in their favour.

"We're just asking for them all to sign up to this low-cost arbitration."

BBC Breakfast's Louise Minchin then pressed McCann about the reforms and the 'enormous amount of money spent on regulation'.

"I don't see any front page apologies... we need proper independent self-regulation."

Gerry McCann then stressed that if these minimum requirements weren't met then The Leveson Inquiry was a "waste of time".

Meanwhile, viewers on Twitter only had one question on their mind.

One viewer was angry McCann was on morning television and penned: "Gerry #McCann doing the rounds on TV & media, whining & moaning. Not one appeal to Maddie"

When McCann started trending on Twitter, another added: "It's shocking how much abuse Gerry McCann gets online, shocking."

Breathtaking hypocrisy by #GerryMcCann to continue to attack Press Freedom yet spends fortune to PR in press abduction of child he caused

Neil Wallis ‏@neilwallis1 3h3 hours ago
Shocking that @BBCr4today happy to be mouthpiece to HackedOff's Gerry McCann yet doesn't even pretend to get balance to refute his nonsense

Neil Wallis ‏@neilwallis1 3h3 hours ago
Astonishing that @BBCr4today teaming up with @guardian yet again to continue attacks on press by recycling self-serving Gerry McCann whinges

I saw the interview as well. I had hoped that I would never see his mean pinched face or hear his whining voice ever again. Just can't keep out the spotlight but no mention about Madeleine. But then again, why should he. He has probably deleted her from history.

It makes my blood boil when he refers to himself as "victim". In the Huffington Post (UK) article Gerry says the PM has a conflict of interest by being so close to media executives. This from the man who paid nearly a million dollars to keep Madeleine on the front pages for a year and received damages for "false" stories. (Lots of comments have been printed with the Huffington Post article, pro and con.)

The British public have spent 12m pound trying to find out what happened to Madeleine and he feels betrayed. The ungrateful hypocrite. Madeleine in death continues to be betrayed by him while his PR man accepts offers for exclusive interviews commemorating what will be the tenth anniversary of her death.

He has done himself no favours by appearing on camera - lots of blinking - I can't stand his voice but from the clip I saw, he must have been sitting on his hands - I didn't see any scratching.

I don't know a lot about Christopher Jefferies but I do remember when he was wrongly accused of murder; he did become a victim of the press. If I were to give Mr. Jefferies any advice it would be to disassociate himself from Gerry McCann. (But I can well understand why Gerry McCann would want to be associated with this poor innocent man who was mercilessly hounded by the press.)

noticed this has reared its head again. another one of cameron's knee jerk reactions. once the dowlers had gone it turned into what george michael, when declining the invitation to appear, called a load of skcollob.

After Gerry's hypocritical TV appearance on Wednesday, I expected to read more about it in Thursday's papers - but could find nothing. I guess now that the PM will be dominating Friday's papers, Gerry can put his blunder behind him. I don't think he ran his remarks about the letter past Clarence because I can't see him approving of Gerry's remarks. I find it odd that Gerry came out of hiding as Kate has been the one to hold centre stage for quite some time.

Just saw the latest celebrities who were included in the Panama Papers. I was hoping to see the McCanns' names among them - but not yet. With all the high priced legal advice they have availed themselves of I wouldn't be surprised if one or two offshore accounts were suggested. They certainly have reached the status of 'rich' and the rich appear to be well versed in ways to shelter their money.

However much they have salted away, Dr Gerry needs to invest in several dozen elocution lessons... They could use his miserable nasal whingeing monotone as a device for fracking.
