I guess it was inevitable that they would appeal. I was hoping the Portuguese Supreme Court would refuse to hear an appeal since the lower Court decision was unanimous but here we go again. I expect this will be another long and costly road for Mr. Amaral to travel. I hope our friends in Portugal keep us informed because I would like to continue to support him by donating to his defense fund to help cover his further legal expenses.

The relentless repetition of returning to court with an 'appeal' gives one cause to wonder, 'Just how much money was donated?'

This despicable couple are beyond belief. They should have been locked up long ago, with their friends, for perverting the course of justice, if nothing else.

Privacy?? When the McCanns have paid that PR firm over the equivalent of one million Canadian dollars to keep them on the front pages of U.K. papers - and they want privacy!! Not to mention all the times they have made themselves available to TV cameras to express their suffering.

Nevertheless I am still hopeful the Supreme Court refuses to hear the appeal; surely the fact that the lower Court decision was unanimous should account for a refusal to tie up any more Court time with this charade.

While everyone has a right to express and to publicise their thoughts in words, image or by any other means, the constitution also states that everyone has a right to a good name and reputation and to the protection of the intimacy of private and family life.

Firstly, the right to a 'good name and reputation' is earned not awarded! Leaving one's children, all under 4 years of age alone every night on a 'family holiday' whilst they were out wining and dining hardly constitutes responsible parenting and deserving of a 'good reputation'!
The McCanns, as being, 'Caring Professionals' should know this and doubtlessly would and should castigate any parents they came across in their professional or private life, who were doing what they themselves did to their own children. They can shout as loud as they like, "It was like leaving them at the bottom of the garden"...
It makes no difference, Madeleine went missing whatever happened to her or who did it... It was then and still is their responsibility, their reputation was then and still is now, tarnished!
No amount of appealing will ever change that fact.

As for the protection of the intimacy of private and family life.......

On page 129 of her book, Kate says

As far as the "protection of the intimacy of private and family life" goes, who can ever forget the front page of The Sun, "I couldn't make love to Gerry". With that jaw dropping headline alone, the McCanns forfeited their right to privacy.

Yes exactly - not worried about their privacy then were they!

Appeal to the Supreme Court

An appeal to the Supreme Court has been filed by the lawyer on behalf of the McCanns.

PJGA will assume the legal costs for Gonçalo Amaral, thanks to your contributions.

We remain confident, as always, that Justice will be served and Freedom of Speech, of Opinion and of Information will prevail.

Thanks to "cherry1" for that latest up-date from PJGA. Glad to hear that, for the moment, Mr. Amaral's legal costs for the Supreme Court appeal are covered by the fund. Knowing how these things can be dragged out and expenses mount, I trust they will keep his supporters informed; I would gladly contribute again for this most worthy of causes.

The news of the appeal is in today's mail Online. 19 comments but the amount of likes is amazing, some are 15k+ against the McCanns.

Why would you think that ( page 129) and why would you ask your husband such a question. Unless of course you had reason to believe that this was the case or had been the case?

It's been a week since we heard that the McCanns launched their appeal to the Supreme Court. I wonder why the U.K. papers have taken a week to report this, because it's only within the past couple of days that the vast U.K. public (who gave so generously to the Fund) have been informed. I wonder if the delay was instigated by Team McCann who had to be aware of the backlash they would get when donors realized the money they donated for the 'search' was being used to cover legal expenses involved in this lawsuit.

Wonder how much now is left in the fund. Hopefully the costs for any court case will be larger than the funds they have. Panic will set in - with a bit of luck. Wonder where they will get the shortfall from.

I'd be willing to bet it won't come from their personal assets. Knowing Gerry's keen eye on the wider agenda, they have probably secured their holdings enough to cover any eventuality. I guess the question is whether they have the brass neck to appeal to the public again continuing the scam they have been perpetrating for nine years.
