I remember reading this awhile back and the question remains, "WHY??"

The British Ambassador John Buck and his staff were concerned enough about the contradictions in the McCanns' story that they questioned the order from London that British authorities be present at every contact between the police and the McCanns, but the order was confirmed.

Why was the order confirmed when the Ambassador and his staff were clearly suspicious of the McCanns' "story"? I will never believe it was for "national security". The order must have come from the very top to protect both PM Blair and in-coming PM Brown because they were involved from the very beginning in protecting the McCanns from prosecution for the death of Madeleine.
