Mum-to-be stabbed by stranger

A pregnant woman stabbed to death in a random attack was "one of the greatest people" anyone could meet, one of her friends has said.

Claire Wilson, 22, died after she was attacked by a stranger in the street near the centre of Grimsby, in northeast Lincolnshire on Sunday afternoon.

Friends and colleagues from the Pizza Hut restaurant where she worked laid flowers at the scene and paid tribute to her.

Police said the mother-to-be was walking to work by herself when she was stabbed in the back by a man she did not know outside a coach hire firm.

Dave Stembridge, 18, said: "She just didn't deserve it. She was one of the greatest people anyone would want to meet.

"She was just amazing. She's going to be missed so much. It's just not fair."

Lara Cole, 16, said Miss Wilson was seven months pregnant with what would have been her first baby.

She said she knew it was going to be a girl and Miss Wilson and her boyfriend Adam were excited about the birth.

"She was lovely," Lara said.

"She was really funny. She always put a smile on everyone's face. It's really sad."

A 53-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident by officers from a passing police van.

Detectives appealed for witnesses but said the area was likely to have been "fairly quiet" because of heavy rain at the time of the attack.




How bloody awful!!!! This girl, 22, and seven months pregnant had her whole life before her and is now dead. Her poor boyfreind, his girlfriend and unborn baby girl - taken away from him......My heart goes out to him.

This is just awful, just a mindless pointless waste of 2 lives. My heart goes out to the poor man who has just lost his whole future.

Two weeks after this mother to be was murdered, a young lad was stabbed to death in Grimsby.
