Man Arrested After Body Found In Pub Freezer

A pub landlord has been arrested after a woman's body was discovered in the freezer of a country boozer.

An employee discovered what are believed to be Becky Thorpe's remains at the Compass Inn in Snettisham, Norfolk, on Tuesday.

Police are waiting for the corpse to thaw before formally identifying Miss Thorpe, 29, who has reportedly not been seen for more than a week.

A man, thought to be her fiance Mike Tucker, was arrested on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday night after he arrived at the four-star Bernay hotel and paid £30 for one night's stay.

The 49-year-old is apparently being brought back to Norfolk for questioning.

A member of staff found the body in a freezer in an outhouse at the 18th Century pub.

Miss Thorpe and Mr Tucker had been running the pub since it re-opened on Easter Sunday last year after a refurbishment.

Detective Chief Inspector Jes Fry of Norfolk Police, who is leading the investigation, said: "The lady was discovered by a police officer who had been flagged down by someone working at the pub.

"As a result of what the employee said, the officer went and checked the outbuilding.

"This person has been found on the premises of a pub, so I'm interested in ascertaining the movements of the licensees.

"It's a case of trying to build up a picture of the movements of both licensees."

Police have also criticised speculation on the web about the case.

DCI Fry said the rumours, which appeared within hours of the discovery of the body, were "inaccurate" and "distressing".

He went on: "I am very concerned that the speculation regarding this incident, particularly on social media sites and in the local area, could cause distress to members of the public.

"I would like to stress that most of the comments I have seen or heard are inaccurate and should be treated with caution.

"Where possible I will endeavour to release more factual details."

This is the first i have heard about this case so how has their been speculation about it.
