The search for Madeleine McCann : A U.S.-based agency charged £50,000 for one month's worth of work
The private investigators hired to find Madeleine McCann were embroiled in fresh controversy last night as it was revealed they claimed nearly £50,000 in expenses for one month’s work.
US-based firm Oakley International was taken on by the Find Madeleine Fund earlier this year on a £500,000 six-month contract to monitor a telephone hotline, carry out detective work and review CCTV footage from around the world of possible sightings of the missing girl.
The company was selected by double-glazing tycoon Brian Kennedy, who has pledged to support the McCanns financially until the mystery of the disappearance of their daughter is solved.
Madeleine has not been seen since May last year, when she disappeared from the family’s apartment in the Portuguese holiday resort of Praia da Luz shortly before her fourth birthday.
However, Mr Kennedy became concerned by Oakley’s $74,155 expenses claim in the first month of the contract, and the lack of receipts.
This newspaper revealed last month that the company’s contract was terminated at the end of August after Mr Kennedy had become concerned at its lack of results.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the Find Madeleine Fund, confirmed that Oakley International was not now working on the case.
Gerry and Kate McCann: A spokesman for the couple said the search for Madeleine continues
He said: ‘The contract with Oakley was just one among many that have been entered into during the search for Madeleine. While Oakley did some valuable work, particularly in the early stages, its contract, like many others, has now come to a close.
‘The search for Madeleine is continuing, however, using other resources and the performance of other contractors is constantly reviewed and monitored. Kate and Gerry and the backers will leave no stone unturned in the search for Madeleine.’
Former police officers are now being interviewed by Mr Kennedy to take over responsibility for the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
Mr Kennedy, 47, estimated to be worth about £250million, made his money in double-glazing and home-improvement ventures with companies including Everest windows.
He became involved with the McCanns after being moved by their plight during the period they were made formal suspects – arguidos – in Madeleine’s disappearance.
Portuguese prosecutors dropped the couple’s arguido status in July.
Oakley International said: ‘We carried out our instructions from the Fund professionally and responsibly in accordance with our agreement.’

Gerry says the papers had already reported the files...
Well that should help restore our confidence in the Daily Express and the Daily Mail then

It is over 3 weeks since we learned that the Portuguese authorities had closed the investigation to find Madeleine, lifted our arguido status and ended judicial secrecy. We were surprised that copies of investigation files were given to the media. The content of these files has been extensively reported. It will be clear to everyone now, that there is absolutely no evidence that suggests Madeleine has been seriously harmed. Knowing this, we strongly believe that Madeleine is out there and can be found.
Of course whoever is responsible for Madeleine’s abduction …

If Brian Kennedy employed Oakley International, one must assume he footed the Bill, similarly, he has recommended Alpha Group so must be paying for them. You have to admit that for a Millionaire who is not
averse to letting his customers down, having two Companies struck off for not submitting accounts, he has hardly the person you could trust. Consider his record:-
He recommended Metodo 3, who proved unsuccessful
He recommended Oakley International who proved unsuccessful
He recommended Alpha, who after a year and intense investigation have proved unsuccessful.
Can you see a pattern here?Would he deliberately lose so much money taking on these no-hopers?
Why would the Directors of NSU who have responsibility for the Fund continue to take notice of him? It will be
interesting to see how much the Accounts say has been spent on "searching" for Madeleine, the first accounts
showed 13.3%, but exhorbitant Management Fees.

Re: Friend of the McCanns - Conservative MEP Edward McMillan-Scott has been expelled from the party
Why would Gerry come out with "We have OUR OWN children to think about now"?
Why would Brian Kennedy pour literally millions down a big, black hole if he's such an astute businessman?
Answer these questions, and a lot of the missing pieces will fall into place.

Some have wondered if he is the `conduit'.is that the right word for someone else.
Interestingly one of his businesses is in emerson house, look up emerson homes/jones homes
Does he have connection to one of the oc employees

TFG
That has always troubled me with Gerry, "our own children", Imo Kate is Maddies Mother you could see the resemblance, but yes it would be interesting to get to the bottom of Maddies real Father, as imo Gerry is NOT.
Yes why would BK keep pouring his money into the Mccanns for their protection, what just to help them because he felt sorry for them, NO, as you say an astute businessman dosen't do things like that, I have my own reasons why, just like everyone else on the forums do and it isnt because he feels sorry for them, imo when this case is solved he will be right smack bang in the middle of this.
If BK had helped them for the first year, then pulled out like the rest of the "celebs" did, then you could say he felt sorry for them, but to still be supporting them after everything we have heard from dna in the apartment/car to their terrible unbelievable "erm" interviews with all their mistakes they make, anyone who felt sorry for them would question them, but he dosen't............strange that isnt it!!!!

Re: Friend of the McCanns - Conservative MEP Edward McMillan-Scott has been expelled from the party
Kennedy recommended Metodo 3 based in Spain where he had a second home at one time. Their "expertise"
was in Fraud and Money Laundering and their reputation doesn"t bear scrutiny. At the time he persuaded Gerry
and CM to engage them for a reputed £50,000 per month (Metodo 3 claimed they only received Euros 60,000
for the full six months. Gerry presented the Board of NSU with a fait accompli. NSU were apparently none too
pleased that they were being asked to pay £50,000 with Kennedy holding the Contract, but agreed. Use your
imagination here, similarly, Oakley were an American Company and were paid exhorbitant sums. Alpha however
are U.K. based and reportedly receiving £16,000 p.m.

Hi Beattie,
Nothing to do with expenses.
McMillan-Scott, ex MEP, is a believer and was the gruesome's free ticket to the European Parliamant shindig concerning Amber Alert. This was a scoop for them (at the time) if you recall and gave them an air of authority and wide exposure.
He was later expelled ffrom the Conservative Party. I'm sure there are posters who can elaborate on this. I think it was something to do with the alliance of very "right wing" thinking parties.
Interesting that they have friends in the 3 major parties now.

Thanks Bert, I remember the Amber Alert charade. I read that Gerry was a Fund Raiser for the Labour Party
but somehow "political " Friends would not have the same loyalty as one"s own Friends.

IIRC either McMillan Scott, or his assistant sent rather a threatening reply to a member of the public who questioned his support of the McCann's. IIRC he suggested that critisising the McCann's could lead to scrutiny by British security services !
Perhaps it was another politician, they're all as useless as each other, but I think it was this creature.

It's quite important to point out the Mcmillan-Scott was Jose Manuel Barrosa's deputy at the time of the EU trips by the McScamms.

The Hare remember emailing some toe rag of a politician at the time, I threatened to box his ears if he carried on with such mischief !

I think that may have been Rodger Knappman.
Although I have seen allegations the McMillan-Scot was a member of UK secret services in the past.

Most Tories will be glad to see the back of the pompous europhile Edward McMillan-Scott. He is whinging that “People are controlled within the Conservative party, as I was.” He’ll be happier with the free and easy Libdems, who have a party culture which is definitely less controlling. His euro-fanaticism will be more in tune with the LibDems as well. In truth he was for a long time an obstacle to a more robust Tory approach to Brussels. So happy news for both sides…

Hi Laffin and Hare,
Your latest posts are most enlightening.
It would appear, then, that there may be a little "mystery" surrounding major players in this story, not directly related to events in Portugal.
I bet Cameron was glad to see the back of this MEP. Wonder where he will pop up as a prospective MP?
