(CNN) -- Oklahoma authorities are determining whether two bodies found Monday are those of a murder suspect and his wife's missing 7-year-old daughter, a spokeswoman for investigators said.

The bodies and a car authorities said was used in the kidnapping of the girl were found in a heavily wooded area in Norman, outside Oklahoma City, said Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.

Lester Williams Hobbs, 46, was charged in the death of his estranged wife, Tonya, and the kidnapping of her daughter, Aja Daniell Johnson. Hobbs and the girl have been missing since January.

Brown said the bodies are those of an adult and child, but positive identification has not been made due to decomposition.

"There's no reason to believe it's not" Hobbs and the child, she said.

The medical examiner will attempt to identify the bodies using Hobbs' fingerprints and Johnson's dental records, Brown said. The cause of death was unknown, though a note found near the car described what happened, she added. The details of the note were not released.

The car had been left in the woods for several weeks, possible a month, Brown said.

The search for Hobbs and Johnson took investigators through Oklahoma and Texas.

Lester Hobbs is not Johnson's biological father and has an extensive criminal history, police say.

Johnson's biological father was awarded emergency custody of her in November, according to Oklahoma County District Court documents obtained by CNN affiliate KWTV of Oklahoma City.

At a hearing, Tonya Hobbs -- identified as Tonya Dunkin in the documents -- and the girl's father, John Johnson, agreed that she would have supervised visitation with the girl and that she would keep the child away from Lester Hobbs, the documents said."

Bodies ID'd as missing Oklahoma girl and mother's suspected killer

(CNN) -- Two bodies found this week in Oklahoma are those of a murder suspect and his slain wife's missing 7-year-old daughter, authorities said Wednesday.

The bodies have been identified as Lester William Hobbs, 46, and Aja Daniell Johnson, authorities said at a Wednesday news conference.

The cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

Authorities had been searching for Hobbs and the girl since late January, when Aja's mother, Tonya -- Hobbs' estranged wife -- was found dead inside an RV in Geronimo, Oklahoma.

On January 26, two days after the body was found, Hobbs was charged with first-degree murder in the killing, and with kidnapping in Aja's disappearance, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities launched a manhunt for Hobbs, saying that he took the girl in a white 1992 Toyota Paseo.

On Monday, the two bodies and the car were discovered in a heavily wooded area of Norman, which is outside Oklahoma City, said Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation. The city is about 80 miles north of Geronimo.

The car had been left in the woods for several weeks, possibly a month, Brown said.

Cherokee Ballard, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma state medical examiner's office, said Wednesday that the office used fingerprints to identify Hobbs and dental records to identify Aja.

Richard Goss, an agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said authorities would be investigating whether anyone had harbored Hobbs.

Investigation Continues After Bodies of Aja Johnson, Lester Hobbs Possibly Found in Norman

NORMAN, Oklahoma – Authorities are conducting a thorough search of a rural area of Norman while waiting for confirmation that two decomposing bodies belong to Lester Hobbs and missing 7-year-old Aja Johnson.

The bodies were found Monday afternoon after a 911 caller reported an abandoned vehicle in a heavily wooded area in Norman. Police think they belong to Lester Hobbs and Aja Johnson, but are waiting for official confirmation from the state Medical Examiner’s office, Police Spokeswoman Jennifer Newell said.

The man who found the car and called 911 already knew there was a car in the area. A surveyor hired by land owner Jerry Spotts had reported seeing a white car in the area two weeks ago.

“I went over to check it out and I got to about 20 yards of it, I guess, and I saw a body lying beside the car,” Jerry Spotts said. “It was a small person, covered with a blanket except for the head that was sticking out.”

He knew at once this was probably the body of Aja Johnson.

“This is not a pretty scene, and it sounds like that little girl and the white car they’ve been searching for,” Spotts said.

A tow truck removed the car from the scene and towed it to a Norman police building.

After the car was removed, police officers spread out and searched the area once again, looking for clues, anything, that might help the investigation.

“You don’t want to miss anything,” Newell said. “We don’t’ want to treat this like an open-and-shut case.”

Hobbs was the main suspect in Aja’s disappearance and the death of her mother. He was charged with murder after Aja’s mother was found dead in a travel trailer in Geronimo in January.

Investigators estimated the two had been dead for about a month, but will wait for an official report from the Medical Examiner, Newell said.

Authorities had patrolled the area at least three times after receiving tips that Hobbs had previously lived in the area and might return there.

Police never spotted the vehicle and “had no reason to believe” Hobbs had parked the vehicle and injured the child in the area, Newell said.

The car was found in a heavily wooded area and likely would have only been visible from the air, Newell said.

We will miss you Aja!!
Im sure we have all heard by now the tragic news! Aja Johnson was truly an innocent young life who deserved so much more then to have her life taken at the hands of such a Terrible person.

Let us remember Aja as a Beautiful Young Girl, Full of life and loving.

Let us also let this serve as a reminder to woman all over the world that this can in fact happen and that any man who is abussive to you or your children serves as an immediate danger to not just YOU, But to your CHILD as well.

Aja Will be missed by all who loved her as well as all of us who have been touched so deeply by her story.
