Re: I HAVE IBS
I am prone to IBS, Badboy, and I try to limit the amount of wheat in my diet. Also, I chew DGL (deglycyrrhizinated liquorice) about 20 minutes before each meal. I choose 'Oatibix,' rather than 'Weetabix,' and eat rye bread when I can get a decent rye loaf.

Do you mean diverticilities? One of my family has that, and her stomach swelled up, it was huge, not much pain though.

Those packs of Dorset muesli look good though I haven't tried any of them. They look like serious fibre!

Husband has/had that for 30 years (he was misdiagnosed as having an ulcer for all that time). he had an op last year here in France as it was so bad/painful and he is 100% better. When we were living in Ireland they said nothing could be done and just advised a high fibre diet, which is absolutely the worst thing, especially during a flare up. Caught early it is manageable by diet. If you do have a flare up avoid high fibre, it causes bloat and pain, stick to fish and veggies and avoid stress (...yes i know the McCanns give us all stress), lots of info on the internet about it. Above all, do not get constipated!! Holland and Barrett sell capsules which are safe to take regularly. Good luck.

Re: I HAVE IBS
I had diverticulitis about 3 yrs ago and it is little nodules which grow on the bowel not serious but painful. My Doctor referred me to the Hospital for a scan and the Consultant said there was about 6 inches of the Bowel affected and because it was painful he recommended surgery to remove the affected area. After several months waiting for an appointment I finally had the op and was advised beforehand I would be in hospitaal 4 or 5 days. the end result was the Surgeon perforated the bowel and I was in the high dependency unit for 4 days and had to have a blood transfusion, lost 2 stone in weight and was in hospital for 3 weeks.!!!!!
I"m fine now and Badboy , I don"t want to frighten you, I"m sure if you do have an op, you will not have the same Surgean.

Fresh blood might indicate just a little tear somewhere low down in the digestive tract, in the descending colon maybe. The feeling in your throat could be reflux.

ACIDIC REFLUX,SOME JWS I SEE REGULARLY SAID THE SAME,I AM TAKING OMEPRAZOLE FOR THAT,NOT SURE IF ITS WORKING.AnnaEsse wrote:Badboy wrote:SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC ,I HAVE BEEN SICK,BROUGHT UP CHEESE AND ONION,I HAVE A CLUMPY(SP?) I'm not sure about omeprazole or such drugs. The stomach is a naturally acid environment and inhibiting the secretion of gastric acid doesn't seem like a good idea in the long term. I think one side effect is the rebound effect of the stomach producing too much acid in response.
Re: I HAVE IBS
was taking Gaviscon at the time , it worked for me, Badboy, I have never taken drugs on a regular basis , try monitoring when the pain starts, what
you have eaten up to 12 hours before and you will be able to isolate the culprit and stop eating it. Cheese is quite indigestable BTW.

Re: I HAVE IBS
Nearly everybody get diverticulis as one ages. It tends to start around the 50 year mark. Basically skin on the inside and outside ages. Diverticulitis is an infection/inflammation of the gut.
That is probably treated with antibiotics but it can also go away by itself.
Curcuma and cinnamon are very good anti-inflammatory substances.
I can't eat wheat, but can eat spelt without any reaction at all. A lot of bakeries do stock spelt bread now. Oatmeal is fine as well.
So try to buy spelt loaves at the health shop, oatmeal/porridge for breakfast.
Cheese, big secret I found is that I can eat all raw cheeses. So everything unpasteurised is fine. The process of pasteurising destroys all the enzymes that help digest the cheese. Same with milk.
Then I found that eating a bit of expensive mud helped enormously with the digestion. I came across Schindele (you have to google it) absolutely fantastic stuff which has all the minerals and trace elements lost from most soils. My insides were happier almost immediately. It's very good for the skin and hair as well.

Re: I HAVE IBS
I was quite ill a couple of weeks ago as you may have seen from my previous topic. My test results came back and confirmed i had an infection though the doctor (a different one who was quite helpful this time) wasn't sure what it was he thought it was probably a bowel infection,so he bombarded me with anti biotics which seemed to have cleared it up though i am still not feeling 100%. I suspect i may have diverticulis but my main problem at the moment is building up my strength.
tigger,I like the sound of 'Schindele' i will read up some more.Do you have a link to an outlet where it can be purchased please ! I know i can probably google it but if you are happy with your 'supplier' that may be a good thing for me to try, thanks.

Re: I HAVE IBS
My son has just finished Uni on Weds and for the last 4 years that he has been at Uni he has had IBS, (or should I say the Doctor says that is what it is), he complains of bloating, loose stools, he aches alot and said he could sleep for England also his skin is very dry espcially on his scalp.
He followed a diet for a while and said he felt a bit better, then went on holiday to Eygypt....guess what he got food poisoning and it knocked him back....I would love to know what it is, Im pleased ive seen your post badboy as we are at the stage now that we are thinking of sending him to see a dietition.

IBS ?
My son also suffers from IBS (thats what the Doc calls it).We were at our wits end with it aswell lilly and eventually the Doc sent him for a colonoscopy to check everything else which was all ok so now its a 'diet' thing which just seems to be an ongoing learning curve ?
I also happen to think stress is a major factor
