A house mouse bit me today!
I'm in the UK (London) and we have house mice. Today our cat caught a third mouse, which I managed to rescue, but the little f***er bit me and drew blood. Having googled 'house mouse bites' I'm now freaking out that I'm going to catch some deadly disease and die. I really can't be bothered to go to the doctor, but does anyone know how likely it is that anything serious will happen to me? The wound has healed perfectly normally and is not inflamed/painful. Am I just being a wimp? (mouse was returned to under the floorboards whilst we come to terms with having a mouse invasion and decide what to do).

Hi - yikes not sure about house mice or any sort of mice. I should remain calm. Think - cats chase mice all the time and get bitten and so does mine so I am sure it will be ok. But having said that ring NHS Direct to be sure. Or your surgery first thing tomorrow. You may need a tetanus jab if you are not up to date. I was bitten by a shrew - very painful but no adverse effect.

Hi Angelique - thanks for the empathy. A shrew? blimey, that's exotic - I don't even know what they are really (must go and google). You make a very good point about cats getting bitten - mine has caught and executed two mice in the past week and seems no worse for wear, but you're right and I will ring for advice tomorrow (well, today in fact - insomniac here).

I think mice carry salmonella but not positive.
You may get a belly ache, but that's it.
You may even CHANGE into a mice.
Just look to make sure you aren't growing any excessive HAIR and your teef aren't becoming POINTY.
If this happens....take yourself to the nearest vet accompanied by a piece off Edam.

Re: A house mouse bit me today!
I get bitten all the time by my kids' pet hamster, nasty little evil tempered bugger it is. It hurts like hell but I haven't died yet. But then my tetanus jabs are all up to date as I occasionally judge cat shows, and some of these moggies can give you quite a nasty scratch/bite if they don't like the look of you. Check with the doc and get a tetanus if you need to.

Mice are dirty vermin, they can carry Weils Disease just like rats.Get yourself down the quacks if i was you.
If you want to get rid of your mice then you will have to cut off their food source. Not just what you have in your cupboards, but if you feed the birds outside they will bring in the seed to their nests indoors (they love bird seed).Chuck the cat under the floor boards for a couple of days as well.

lol...thanks for all your wonderful replies. I'm still alive and less concerned about it, having discovered that UK mice don't carry the Hanta virus (yet). I am craving cheese though....
