The father of Claudia Lawrence is to help present the findings of an inquiry into the rights of families of missing people at Downing Street later.

Solicitor Peter Lawrence's 35-year-old daughter was last seen in York on 18 March 2009. Her disappearance is being treated by police as murder.

Mr Lawrence gave evidence at the parliamentary inquiry in June.

He and Rachel Elias, sister of missing Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards, will hand in the findings.

They will be joined by Nicki Durbin, the mother of missing 19-year-old Luke Durbin, who was last seen in Ipswich in May 2006 after a night out with friends.

New law
Supporters of the charity Missing People and the chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Runaway and Missing Children and Adults, Ann Coffey MP, will also be at Downing Street on Monday.

The event also coincides with an expected announcement that the Justice Select Committee is to launch an official inquiry into Presumption of Death legislation - the focus of one of the four sessions of last month's Parliamentary Inquiry.

Mr Lawrence hopes the inquiry will result in a new law allowing families to appoint a trustee to deal with the affairs of missing people 90 days after they disappear.

He said: "I am pleased that the prime minister is taking an interest in the 'missing rights' issue and hope that this will ensure something will soon be done to help those families who find themselves in difficulties."

Ms Coffey said: "The needs of this group of victims must be met and the government must listen to the voices of the families and professionals reflected in the recommendations within this report.

"None are particularly costly and yet, if implemented, would make all the difference in the world to the families."

McCanns slept in and missed the bandwaggon today??? That is not like them at all

School finishes this week, Kate doesn't work so no excuses as to why they didn't jump on this bandwagon.

It makes one think that maybe they are not in this Country perhaps - can't imagine they would pass up a chance to dominate this publicity opportunity.

That is surprising. Usually the McCanns would be at the very front of anything like this. Still maybe they are on holiday.

At first, I thought the missing person was the PM ! Normally, Kate would be there elbowing her way to front and grabbing the microphone to do her "poor me" pantomime. Their absence is indeed strange. Have they fled the country ?

What a high profile opportunity missed. Very unusual for Kate to miss a photo shoot it's maybe her signing on day at the jobcentre.

yep cause we all know kate works really hard she said so herself!!!!

My guess is they are keeping a low profile because they might be wondering if anything important was said on their phone calls to CM which he says have been hacked. Maybe Missing People saw her as a grandstander after the last episode where Kate took centre Stage and she wasn"t invited.

What's the point off the mccanns going, Cameron won't be their and dealing with the second in command.....well that just ain't good enough for them.


Remember when the mccanns were annoyed because someone that dealt with them, early on in the case, annoyed I think Kate MCCCANN.....wish I could remember who or what it was now.

I know that Gerry was peeved when he went to the US because he thought he was going to get an appointment to see Laura Bush, but he only saw an aide.

They tried to see David Cameron and were "only" offered "mid-level consular support", which they rejected as they felt that was beneath them.

And the GNR weren't good enough either....if I remember.

Daft question, but why did and do they think that all who deal with them have to be top brass?
What a superior sense of their own importance the both of them must have. The twins will see this as normal behaviour, how will they turn out, poor lambs. Neglect of upbringing and direction just doesn't cover not paying a paltry sum to care for your most precious possession whilst you party.
I will say it again because I feel it is true it is who they are and who they mix with socially and at work. Joe Public just doesn't stand a chance. Have just read on another thread that Ben Needham's mum hasn't even had the photocopied acknowledgement to her letter from DC.

Maybe they concluded that being seen to be seeking a law of presumption of death after 90 days would be hurtful and unhelpful.
