Re: Insider Reveals GlaxoSmithKline Targeted Children with Illegal Drug Marketing
Its disgusting that doctors are putting people on drugs simply to get some payoff from the
drug companies and if medication is required legitimately it should be the best available for the
person, not based on what drug company gives the most incentives for using their drugs.
I think doctors are giving for example anti depressants to people who dont need them and there
are far better ways of dealing with issues like depression and anxiety than taking drugs, unless as a
last resort. too often people are prescribed them needlessly and they can then add to the persons problems and cause more problems for them and addiction.

Many doctors were prescribing drugs like seroxat to kids when it was prohibited to do so, but they carried on prescribing them, drug associated with many suicides.

The Merck company has also been fined heavily recently for off-label prescribing for children, but the fine was peanuts compared to the money they had made off those drugs.

Not when the fine is a drop in the ocean for them.

Some years ago, I asked a friend, who was a psychiatrist at a local hospital at the time, why it was that most patients, whatever the diagnosis, were put on chlorpromazine when admitted. He said it was because chlorpromazine was off patent and it was cheap!

I was stunned cherry1. Chlorpromazine was Largactil when it was on patent, and staff talked about 'the Largactil shuffle,' because it made patients like zombies. Companies make their money while the drug is on patent and then other companies can produce the drug under another name. Some of the drugs that are off patent then appear as the new and improved version and are back on patent. Well, fancy that! The antihistamine Clarityn was one of the first non-drowsy products on the market, but came off patent a few years ago and the active ingredient, loratadine is available from supermarkets and pharmacies at around £1 for 14, while Clarityn is still around £3. The manufacturers have come up with a new version, Desloratadine, aka Neoclarityn, which is on patent!

Thinking about it, the system is already being put into place Anna, the PCTs and GPs in general are being set up to control NHS budgets. Although the present use of NICE and postcode lottery of care and treatment availability removes manufacturer involvement from the equation.AnnaEsse wrote:malena stool wrote:Shocking... and it will happen over here.
