MoondampRoses wrote:Hello Everyone, Thank you very much for all your replies, I hope you won't mind if I just reply collectively to you all. I have been poorly and haven't been here for a while. I have to say I admire you all for your giving up smoking and also the people like myself who are trying to. I have fallen off the wagon slightly, I lasted for a few days then a very, very stressful situation occurred and I started again I am ashamed to say. I haven't been smoking much, though I know that's still not very good. I have cut right down from my previous 20 a day to 20 in a week so I am progressing slowly. I am trying really hard and it is not easy at all so please don't shout to much at me. With your help and some willpower I am sure I can kick this bad habit, so please bear with me. Thankyou again for all your messages I do appreciate them and they do help to strengthen my determination to succeed at this. Look after yourselves. Good Luck to everyone who is trying to quit as well. With all my very best wishes from Rose xxx
MoondampRoses, don't beat yourself up for falling off the wagon, think most of us have i know i did.

John
Any time you are ready to join I will do my best to encourage you. Hope things go ok with your tests.
My husband started the same day as me, he smokes mini cigars anyway cold turkey does not work for him.
He has had 5 cigars today which makes it a bit harder on me but I am trying to stay positive and encourage him that which ever way he approaches this, it is up to him.
He even brought me a packet of cigarettes........... the temptation ..............
I will be strong.

Re: Is Anyone Else Trying To Give Up Smoking ?
Hi Eddie
I was annoyed with him and I know exactly why he did it. I told him that he wants me to fail because he is not up to the challenge or simply cant do it.
Today he feels he has done well and he thinks just because I have stopped without cutting down etc thats not his way.
He cant do it like that He has only smoked 5 today so far and that is great.
So I dont want to come down hard on him as maybe he has to cut down gradually I dont know.
I know I can do this I know it is not going to be easy but I am determined my problem is that with him being a cigar smoker I feel a bit .....
I dont know the right words to use here........ My main incentive was we both did it. if he carries on smoking cigars I hope my determination wont fail me.

Re: Is Anyone Else Trying To Give Up Smoking ?
Hi Eddie
Another day cigarette free so far.
Hubby brought me a bag of celery and a tub of humus today.
A friend of mine pointed out that My hubby has probably told his mates in the pub he had to buy cigarettes as he doesn't think the wife can manage then he looks like he tried and because of moi, the poor wife with no willpower he tried his best.
I think i have spoilt that little plan on chatting to him on the phone while he was in pub he told me he only had 2 cigs brilliant I said he then passed his phone to his friend just to verify what he had told me. His mate agreed he had only had 2.
Brilliant all going to plan. Bearing in mind this is a joint decision I am not checking this was part of the original plan his mate offered to tell me if he was being honest. (Not that I dont trust him, you understand)
Then his friend while chatting to me on the phone, offered to get me some patches that would help me as he knew hubby had brought me cigs What the friend was not told was I didnt ask, want, smoke or need the cigs.
I am chuffed with him really, he is cutting down doing it, his own way.
So far today he has had 4 in total . Slowly slowly we will get there.

Re: Is Anyone Else Trying To Give Up Smoking ?
Oh dear this is getting harder
I am waning I started so strong yet for the last two days I have thought nothing but ''I need a fag'' I have not yet had one but oh .........
I am going to lie down.
When I wake up and hubby returns I can get some second hand cigar smoke. Is it really worth it.

Re: Is Anyone Else Trying To Give Up Smoking ?
Hi to all of you that are trying to give up or considering not smoking. Eddie thanks for your encouragement.
I had 2 Cigarettes last night and feel pretty annoyed with myself.
I really thought the first week would be the hardest, yet found that to be not as difficult as I had imagined. In the second week I thought I had cracked it. Then suddenly it hit me this feeling of needing a cigarette just one etc etc. I tried drinkiing plenty of water walking the dog I could not get the thought out of my mind.
Today I had a quick look here and am trying to take on board Eddies tips. NO.3 You were right Eddie I did not enjoy it.
Listen Laci, if you DO give in and smoke this is what I will tell you:
1) You haven't FAILED it is just a blip - a minor setback so don't be too hard on yourself - you have done BRILLIANTLY so far.
2) Week 2 is harder than week 1 in some ways - so forewarned is being better prepared.....
3) I can guarentee you this: You will not enjoy a cigarrette as much as you actually think you will....so if you do have a slip-up, it will be easier to stop again.
So I am back on board and hoping I can stick with this.

Laci ,JOHNFRANCIS don't beat yourself up if you relent and smoke it happens ,take it slowly one day at a time.Don't tell anyone you are stopping ,just say i don't feel like smoking today,if anyone asks.Tell yourselves its only a habit not an addiction, and habits can be broken.I said this to myself over and over.If you can get through one day you can get through two then three and so on.
