Re: Local or General ?
I've had both Lioned and it really is down to the individual where an option is given. What does the surgeon or his team recommend?
Go for the local if you are OK with the idea of watching and knowing what the surgeon is doing to you.
If not a general is possibly the best option.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re: Local or General ?
I had two children by C-section - the first by epidural, the second was under a GA.
I was awake with the epidural but you still don't get to see anything. However I recovered a lot faster than with the GA, and felt a lot less rotten afterwards. If that is of any help to you!

The only other time i have been in hospital was to have a 'voluntary' op' to a rather delicate area of my anatomy a few years ago.I had the choice then and went for a 'local'.Just as the surgeon was about to start he asked if i would mind if a few students watched !
So i thought i dont really care at this point, and about 20 young lady student doctors came in.

Re: Local or General ?
When my wifey was having our second by C section she had a 'general' and fell off the table, luckily my little baby was out by that time so we just left her there to sleep it off.
(not funny at the time i know but is when we think about it now)

Yep they was ok,wifey had been in hosp for about 2 months (bed rest) cos things looked bad and my little baby was yellow for about two weeks so they left her in the incubater to 'cook' a little bit more.....

Re: Local or General ?
From a medical point of view there is much less risk in having a local,it's usually explained that with a GA there is a small risk of complications.Generally there are drapes around the op site so you don't get to see much, but you can hear the inane comments from the 'team'.
I'd opt for local whenever possible,as has been said, recovery is quicker, less sickness and you get to go home quicker.
All the best lioned. :cute:

Re: Local or General ?
I've also had two c sections, one local and the other GA, the GA I had no choice in but the other felt a bit like somebody was doing the washing up in my stomach, I felt the odd tug but nothing more. I f I had to do it again think i'd go for local.

I hope your three boys take after their dad, perish the thought that they would be lumbered with any of your traits
Lioned, good luck with getting your 'bits' sorted. I'm afraid if it was me they would have
to knock me out cold

Every one of them takes after me...great personality, clean living, non-drinking or smoking, good looking, law abiding, polite and affable....and totally stark raving bonkers

Re: Local or General ?
Yep, Lioned, I'd agree with Fishie - if you can opt for local rather than general when you have the choice.
All the best
