Rowling's 'Painful' Split From Literary Agent

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has ended her association with the literary agent who helped launch her first book on the boy wizard.


The Harry Potter author had worked with Christopher Little since 1996


Rowling, one of the richest women in the world, had worked with Christopher Little since he found a publisher for her first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in August 1996.

The books have sold more than 400 million copies and been translated into 67 languages.

A statement issued by StonehillSalt PR on behalf of the author said: "We can confirm that JK Rowling has terminated her association with the Christopher Little Literary Agency.

"This was a painful decision, especially as Ms Rowling had actively sought a different outcome for some weeks.

"However, it was not taken without good reason and it finally became unavoidable."

A spokeswoman for Rowling said there was no comment regarding reports of potential legal action from Christopher Little.

In the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List, published in May, Rowling was ranked 142nd and worth £530m up from £519m in the 2010 list.

Last month, Rowling revealed previously unpublished Harry Potter material would be released on a new website in a move she described as a "give-back" to her millions of fans.

Speaking at a news conference at the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington, central London, she said the Pottermore site was a place for fans to "share" the books

Iv"e included the comments below because if true that JKR is as tight as the comment suggests, no way will she support the McCanns financially and I"m just wondering if this split is linked to Kate"s Book.

Thank you for this article about JKR.

I would like to think it was to do with the McCanns but I doubt it. Maybe the Agent wanted her to write more Books. Am I right in thinking she said something about the final installment recently.

To continue with my down on everbody day i am waiting to see what she comes up with after the Potter books & films end i,m not holding my breath i think maybe she,s a one trick pony , but i,ve been known to be wrong many many times.If people want first class fantasy they can,t go wrong with Tolkein now there,s a proper writer.

It is true that JKR was writing her first book in a Cafe every day because it was warm and she was too broke to afford heating for her flat in Edinburgh.
However, even though she is considered miserly, with a fortune of over £500 million and rising , wouldn"t it be nice if she did something practical and
opened a children"s school or something.

Thanks panda, interesting article, I dont think its anything to do with Kate, but do remember anyone who seems to have helped the McCanns, do seem to be cursed with the old Karma thing, so you never know do you.

Sorry panda i not knocking her for finding a niche and making money ,i just don,t feel she,s got anything else apart from the Potter series .

I"m just wondering if it had anything to do with her denial that she had taken any part in Kate writing that book. Also did she introduce Kate to her Literary Agent or did the McCanns get in touch with him knowing how well he had promoted JKR initially? Considering they have had a successful
Partnership for so many years you have to wonder what caused the rift. As you say, the McCanns have seemed to bring bad karma to those involved
in Madeleiene"s disappearance.
