Spain's traffic authority fines film company over Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts poster

The DGT says the production company has broken the law by showing the actors without motorbike helmets Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts on the poster


The Spanish traffic authority, DGT, has issued a 30,000 € fine to the Tripictures film production company. They say that the posters for their film ‘Larry Crowne’ which show Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts on a moped but without helmets is ‘promoting dangerous driving’.

Under article 52 of the Ley de Tráfico in Spain, it says that bans advertising in relation to motor vehicles which offers the argument, written or verbal, in its sounds or images, to encourage excessive speed, dangerous driving or other circumstances which suppose a conduct against the law. They note that three out of four motorists die as a consequence of head injuries, and that the danger of a brain injury is three times greater if the rider is not wearing a helmet.

Tripictures can appeal now against the fine.

I suppose in a way it is sending out the wrong message but E30,000 seems excessive.
