Laila Ibrahim Issa Jamool is being kept shackled to her six-month-old baby after being convicted by a court in the capital Khartoum on July 10, activists say.

President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said last month Sudan would adopt a "100%" Islamic constitution after the breakaway of non-Muslim South Sudan a year ago.

Jamool's husband accused her of 'Zina' (adultery), illegal under the Sudan Penal Code 1991. Her death sentence is the second to be passed in Sudan for the offence in the last few months.

Her case is being followed closely by the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), a women's rights group. They have assigned lawyers who have appealed against the conviction and sentence.

"The appeal is understood to take not less than one-and-a-half months before a response can be got from the court of appeal," SIHA said in a statement.

"During all this time, Mrs Jamool will still be shackled in Omdurman women's prison together with her six-month-old child."

Amnesty International said the conviction did not meet international legal standards and also violated Sudanese criminal law.

"The stoning sentence was imposed after an unfair trial in which she was convicted solely on the basis of her confession and did not have access to a lawyer," Amnesty said in a statement.

Floggings are a common punishment in Sudan for crimes such as drinking alcohol and adultery. But sentences of stoning are rare. Officials in Sudan's justice and information ministries were not available for comment.

Horrendous, Panda. It's being said that the only evidence is the woman's confession and I wonder how that was obtained. With Islamists gaining more power across the Middle East, we can probably expect more of this.

It's scary too that within 2 generations Muslims will rule the World.!!! I saw a YouTube video presentation a while ago
by Sony (wish I could find it now) saying while the Western World has 2 to 3 children, the Muslims have 4 to 5 so within two generations they will dominate.

Can you give me the link for that video so I can copy it? The Sony one was more detailed, suggesting that with the pace of change what children are being taught in school now will be obsolete by the time they leave . There were other

Thanks wjk. I am not racist but have seen the massive influx of Muslims where I live and really resent the fact that they don't attempt to integrate or speak the language. There is a married couple where I live who were given a 2 bedroom
Flat even though there is only the two of them, drive a free Car because the husband has to use a walking stick , get
Housing Benefit and Council Tax paid ......no wonder Britain is a magnet for all these immigrants!!!

It's so sad to think that Britain was defended by our forces from two World Wars but has been invaded without a shot
being fired. I have no quibble with those immigrants who work and have integrated into the community.

Yes, a lot don't intergrate and that is the problem. Even the young ones at one of my grandsons school are not allowed to go to birthday party's with the rest of their classmates. Why would their parents do that? Why would these parents and grandparents not encourage their little ones to join in?
The next generation will speak English, but are not being encouraged to intergrate.

wjk, nowhere in the Islamic World would Foreigners who couldn't speak their language have their children educated,
receive family allowance, be housed , free prescriptions etc be tolerated.

I do feel sorry for youngsters growing up today , their World is changing so fast .

I am also glad that I will not be around but I fear for our children and our children's children, because things will just get steadily worse. I am pleased I was born when I was, we had the best of it. I would not want to be born into this world now.

You know the old saying " giving them the rope to hang us with" so so true. How crazy are we???

And let's not forget Abu Hamza. His family lives in an upmarket road in London, next door to a former Labour Minister. They get practically every benefit known and they had a 'people carrier,' for the children when Abu Hamza was around. Don't know if they still have it. He and his family were living in comfort thanks to our benefit system and he was travelling from his comfy home in Shepherds Bush to Finsbury Park to preach hatred. We still haven't managed to get him extradited to the US!
