Simpson, who is serving a 33-year jail sentence, is reported to have severe diabetes and “sky-high” blood pressure.

The former Naked Gun actor, 66, weighs 21 stone and lounges all day on his prison bunk, getting up only to gorge on sugary treats, according to a fellow inmate.

The unnamed convict at Nevada’s tough Lovelock jail said: “OJ’s doctors have told him he could be dead in as little as three months.

“But OJ doesn’t care. He knows that he’s never going to get out of prison so he refuses to take care of himself.”

The former American football star, who played Detective Nordberg in the hit Naked Gun film comedies, was sensationally cleared of murdering ex-wife Nicole Brown, 35, and her friend Ronald Goldman, 25, in Los Angeles in 1994.

Simpson was later found liable for their deaths in a civil lawsuit brought by the victims’ families.

In 2008 he was sentenced to 33 years for the kidnap and armed robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel.

Simpson has been seeking a retrial but another friend said that the fallen idol spends his time in a daze, refusing to communicate.

“He ignores people when they talk to him and often wanders around in a glassy-eyed trance,” revealed the source.

But his lawyer Ozzie Fumo yesterday dismissed the claims published in National Enquirer magazine.

Mr Fumo said: “I spoke to him on Saturday.

“I spent a lot of time with him preparing for the retrial motion and he never once mentioned diabetes. He seemed fine.”
