Is This true?

i have just been reading on FB where there is a thread called The Madeleine Mccann Controversy. One of the posters on there has done a spoof brochure called McCann World, supposedly for a holiday complex and its facilities. Quite amusing and very tongue in cheek but with an element of "truth". Anyway, someone mentioned Gerry's father. Is it true that:

1. He was called Jack McCann
2. Was a labour MP for Rochdale
3. Died in 1972 and was succeeded by Cyril Smith

There is a hint that something nasty might be in the woodwork hence the closeness to Gordon brown and why they appear to be being protected. Anyone any ideas?

This story has been raised before and demonstrated to be untrue.

No the bit about the father being an MP is incorrect. I know because I once saw it and the MP concerned wrote to say there was no connection at all with G and K McCann

Gerry's father was a joiner, not an MP and he worked out of a sawmill at Crosshill.

I think this story is why people keep saying Gerry is/was a Labour fundraiser.
It was proven on 3A's not to be the case iirc?

Johnnie (not Jack) McCann died quite a few years ago, about 10 I think. Not long after Maddie was born.

If I remember correctly from Kate's book, she said that Gerry's father died when the twins were on the way - so 2004 or 2005. The MP Jack McCann died back in 1972.
