Memorial for Joanna
What do you guys think, how about we start a fund to collect money for the erection of a memorial for Joanna at a place to be decided by family members. Somewhere that people could go to lay flowers and just remember her? Paula, has this been considered yet. It could be blessed giving her some sort of dignity?
It would be positive action and mean something.

their direct family will keep the money for them and they will not spend a euro to buy her flowers
but the cousins, maybe the family of her father, the older brother and sister would pray for her for sure

What if we send you the money and you do it providing you have the time.

Re: Memorial for Joanna
I don't mean to be picky, but shouldn't this be on the Joana Cipriano thread?
Almost everything seems to get posted on the Madeleine section and gets all mixed up.

Its an excellent idea Binky and reading the other comments I think we should take this idea and join forces with some people in Portugal. Maybe Claudia and Joana and Paula who actually live there.
If we can raise funds all together we can get a memorial in place and have enough for flowers to be placed regularly...
Ideas?

Don't know if it would be of any use or not, but there is Kiss Radio, the English speaking station on the Algarve. They undertake a lot of fund raising and stuff amongst ex pats to help the Portuguese. When I was there we went to an Indian meal they had arranged to raise money to buy ripple mattresses for the hospital at Portimao. I can't remember the name of the man who owns the radio station, or the DJ, but they were really pleasant people who did a lot of work to bring all nationalities there together for the common good.

Thanks Amber, I was going to start trawling through the internet. I am sure they would be willing to advise/help. Just tell them they were recommended by the old lady and her husband who enjoyed the meal at the Maharaja.

haven't been around much this week, decided to paint the inside of my house to keep busy. Could have hired a painter to do it but I enjoy that kind of thing tbh, theraputic
Anyway, back to Joanna, could Paula set up a bank account in PT to get the ball rolling? I would be happy to send a donation to get the ball rolling to open the a/c, it won't be much but would be a start. Once it gets round that there is an a/c in her name others might donate and it might create some momentum? It doesn't have to be elaborate, just something small and tasteful to acknowledge her.
Really need Paula to let me know what she thinks and if this would work.

Re: Memorial for Joanna
Thanks for the update Amber. I'm happy to chip in, and when I go back in November, I could put some flowers on the memorial and take some photos for the forum.

Granny i'm not getting much joy with this memorial....you'd think someone would want to help so I think I'll email Claudia to see if she can do something....
She's been great in the past when I needed info about Portugal so i'm sure she'll help or put me in contact with someone who can!
Re: Memorial for Joanna
What a shame Amber. I know when I was at that fund raising dinner there was a lot of talk amongst the ex pats about the falling pound and how it was affecting their income, businesses etc., but still, it doesn't cost much to remember a child does it ? My husband and I get our pensions paid in pound sterling and then converted to euros, so our income is going down the tubes, but I wouldn't cut back on giving a bit of help to children and animals as neither group are in a position to help themselves.
Just had a thought. Someone mentioned George Galloway had a villa on the Algarve and he did get involved a bit with Madeleine didn't he?
