On This Day 29 Years Ago...

56 football fans where burnt to death at Bradford City football ground.

Excited fans had turned up to celebrate the last day of the season at their club.

A dilapidated old wooden stand stuffed underneath with accumulation of combustible rubbish through years of neglect caught fire and very quickly fans where engulfed in flames.

Disgraceful that this seems to have been overlooked by the media and Sports news on tv and the pundits wallowing in the final day of the premier league on the telly at the moment.

No minutes silence for these poor fans and their families today ?

I'd forgotten that there were children involved.

I'd forgotten the tragedy entirely.

I remember it very well.I was on my way back from football with a couple of mates in the car couldnt believe what we where hearing on the radio.We where as close to tears as grown men could be.

There is always something special for football fans on the last day of the season.
For Bradford fans they had won there league and been presented with the cup and it should have been a day of celebration.
For those fans engulfed in flames there where two ways out. Either escape onto the pitch or try to get out the back.Those who chose the latter where doomed due to the layout of the stand being below the rear exits that where already ablaze and blocked.

Shocking tragedy.
