Labours Chukka Ummuna has announced that one in five people have few digital skills, which leaves them disconnected and therefore more likely to vote UKIP. Is he serious?

What he is saying in effect is that you only vote UKIP if you're thick. The more intelligent apparently having the nous to vote for 13 years of labour misrule much of it under Blair. This followed a number of years of tory misrule. This lack of choice has proved disastrous for the country on a range of fronts from the cuts in services to pay for their profligacy to the ridiculous situation where everyone and his brother has a degree but no job, to the rise and growth of food banks.

Our present incumbent MP's which include Mr. Ummuna have been robbing us blind for years. Apart from any other consideration, why do we have to subsidise their drinking habits with their duty free bars? How is that necessary to do their jobs?

Perhaps Mr. Ummuna it's the other way round and people are catching on to the way in which the three major parties have been taking us for fools, breaking promises, reneging on pledges. Ignoring us, and generally leading the high life.

We need, we desperately need honest politicians, who put the country first, rather than themselves. I don't think it needs the brains of Britain to know just how dishonest some MP's are, and want a change. Mr. Ummuna and his colleagues would do well to put their own house in order first. Judging from some of the statements made by MP's over the years, some of them aren't all that bright.

Good morning badboy

Yes, that is about what he's saying, that one in 5 of us are not - he says that being digitally illiterate makes us somehow less intelligent, and as a result (being thick) more likely to vote UKIP. I assume he means among others, me and my government, we have a mobile phone, a simple pay as you go job in the car for emergencies. other than that we don't use mobile 'phones. That doesn't mean we cant. We prefer not to.

What Chuka Ummuna is saying is that those of us who are digitally challenged, which, I am translating as not the full 100 watts are more likely to vote UKIP, and I think that is a staggeringly silly thing to say. The three trick pony of Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat, which is all we have had to vote for in the past, have caused damage beyond telling over the years. To say only; er shall we say more switched on people would vote for more of it is in itself not very intelligent.

Then we have the ways and means they have all found over the years, of supplementing their salaries at our expense. The broken promises and pledges. The contempt they treat us with as long as there is no election looming that is.

Then we have Cameron's pledge to bring forward a referendum if they go ahead with appointing jean Claude Juncker. Which they look certain to do. That is a slap in the face to not only British voters but all across Europe.

The western political system is broken, a new party may be the means to fix it. Mr. Ummuna is not worried in the slightest about any of this the fact that he may lose his own comfortable seat is all that is on his mind, but what he said is an insult to us as his masters. He is our representative, we are not his.

Two very good posts katertaif. I did not know that when I woke up this morning I would be told by Mr Ummuna that I am not the full 100 watts, as you say. Judging by the number of votes that UKIP got there seems to be rather a lot of us.

Yes, we seem to have taken over the asylum. Personally I think that speech will go down as one of the most crass, and ill thought out statements even for Hansard. You have to ask who these people think they are. Bearing in mind that many of them were mediocre to not even that good in their original chosen careers. So they put up for Parliament as about the only job in Britain where qualifications, experience and ability play no part at all.

As candidates, they go from door to door, shaking hands, and kissing our babies, and promise us the Earth if we will only vote for them. Once in he tells us that we are dense unless we vote for more of what has already damaged the country.

We are certainly not the full 100 watts if we continue to let them rob us blind, and continue with this idiotic politically correct system which is nothing more than apartheid in reverse. I don't want women only candidates, or ethnic only candidates, I want the best candidates, and if that means 654 ethnic women in Parliament that's fine by me. The opposite also must apply, without any artificial aids to getting to be an MP.

Ummuna's so bright that he can't understand his smirking face and arrogant, crass, stupid remarks may have just cost the New Labour Party a lot of votes come the GE. (The fraudulent thieves and smooth talking cheats he associates with are not The Labour Party which used to represent the working man).

This 35 year old object has done nothing with his life other than school, college and 4 years as a solicitor, wrote a book about Labour before heypresto he's an MP in 2010.... Wow, what a skillset... Let's hope he never has to really earn a living, especially if those who were supposed to represent him dumped on him at every opportunity... Then we'd see just who the thicko is.

Why is our once great Parliament overwhelmed by trash like him?

Rant over. ms

The Mother of all Parliaments became overwhelmed by trash like that as a result of an ever growing insufferable arrogance as they became puffed up with their own self importance.

Is this good for me? is the first question they ask, followed by:
Will it put money in my pocket?

Whether or not it's good for the country is neither here nor there.

On the same note, I see it looks as if Camoron is going to do a volte face over the appointment of Jean Claude Juncker. What happened to the bringing the referendum forward speech?

Good evening katertaif,
Once upon a time politician's were able to walk upright, look you in the eye totally unhampered by 'swag sacks', masks and striped shirts and we could generally assume what they said was something along the lines of the truth. Nowadays if they say it's daylight, we check to see if the street lights are on. There is no Honour left in the saying 'Honourable Members' and the word 'Member' refers to a point on their anatomy a little South of their belt buckle.

Cameron for all his bonhomie, apparent 'passion' and his exhalted position of leader of this nation, is no better than any other, 'Member' in the House. Which is sad, because he could have made a complete fresh start after the debacle and shambles of Blair's and Brown's 13 years of parliament sponsored corruption and fraud. He could have created some modicum of trust between the long suffering electorate and the 'Members', but has made several dreadful decisions, often in the face of good sound advice. The appoinment of Andy Coulson as his communications director and several inept and incompetent cabinet ministers comes to mind.........

I think Cameron's reversal of his Jean Claude Juncker threat highlights the extent of his trustworthyness and the likelyhood of a referendum on Europe in 2017 should he get re-elected...

Good evening malena stool

Unfortunately you are quite right (again) the terms honourable, and right honourable mean absolutely nothing, the vast majority of them being anything but.

His threat of bringing forward this mythical referendum if they went ahead and appointed juncker has shown his original promise for what it was. Something that was never going to happen. He chose his words very carefully when he made that original promise and the only question is did he know full well, the conditions he set upon it would never come about? Assuming he did, then he is man with no honour at all. The only possible saving grace being, his back benchers; fearful of losing their own swag bags, striped shirts and masks may force his hand.

The wider problem being that Juncker being an arch federalist, will want to move steadily nearer to declaring the United States of Europe which coming only a bare couple of weeks after a pan European election, is flying in the face of the electorate in the nett contributing members of this rotten edifice. A clear signal that the powers that be, are not interested in the slightest what the electorate think, or want, and thus a clear sign that democracy is a dirty word.

Jacek Rostowski the ex foreign minister of Poland has said some fairly unfortunate things about our fearless leader. the most telling I think being Cameron will only get what he wants in exchange for a "mountain of gold"

It seems to me this sums up the intent of not only Poland, but many of the other 27 leeches in joining the EU. For what they can get out of it, nothing more. Between them they can vote Cameron down. It also says that if Britain wants to get out, that is fine by him as long as that money which we supply so lavishly continues. They don't want us, they want our money. That is now clear, and if we ever get a referendum (Ha ha) no amount of legerdemain on Cameron's part can hide that.

The basic premise is good, we did vote to join a mutually advantageous trading bloc and that simple formula should be reinstated. I have absolutely nothing against Europe as such trade with YES! be ruled by NO!

It beggars belief that our elected representatives have seemingly given free rein to an unelected European Paliament to run our country to suit the needs of Europe. Then tell more lies than Tom Pepper by promising a referendum.

But it isn't just us here in the UK who do not want this affiliation to go any further. The French, Netherlands and increasing numbers of Germans are becoming disenchanted with the proposed federalisation of nations with very different cultures, languages and living standards.

The more we are made aware of this, the more the aims of Common Purpose seems to be coming to the fore...

Good Afternoon malena stool

Normally I don't bother watching PMQ's any more. The childish, undisciplined way they conduct themselves even though they are well aware that they are being watched (that indeed is the very reason the vast majority attend) is a national disgrace. Today was no different, and the speaker had to call for quiet and a little restraint several times. That these people can behave in this completely immature fashion, and yet tell us that we are in effect dense, if we don't vote their way is breath taking. They prove weekly that they are the dense ones. the speaker said as much more than once today. Are we actually supposed to go on blindly voting for people who would be a disgrace at a Chimps tea party?

Prior to this we had bother our uninformed Charles Kennedy telling us that in effect we shouldn't bother our uninformed little minds about the affairs of Europe. As for the appointment of Juncker, they (the Lib. Dems) didn't get their message across (probably because we are not able to understand)

As you say it is the net contributing countries who are becoming increasingly disenchanted, and who can blame us. Country after country has joined and we have more wanting to join purely and simply for what they can get out of the Golden Goose. How long can we go on paying out while at the same time their citizens come and take their full share of the work available?

Sooner or later, without root and branch reform the whole edifice is going to come crashing down. the carsh being more violent and widespread the longer it is allowed to go on.

Good evening katertaif.

I haven't watched PMQ as a regular event since Brown lost office, he was always such a painfully dim and pitiful object when facing Cameron... I couldn't agree more with your views of our elected representatives demonstrating their kindergarten bonding skills. I'm surprised they are allowed to carry on in this childish way week after week. There is hopefully some very astute brains hidden behind the scenes which actually run this country.

The tragedy of our political system is that they can say or do pretty much as they please, even it seems as to insulting and belittling the electorate. Fist fights in the Commons bar, Brown's 'Bigot' comments and Umunna's shallow insults at those who are disenchanted with New Labour's pathetic attempt to pass themselves of as an alternative to the Tories. Actual working policies and realistic attainable mandates fall by the wayside in favour of music hall, drunkenness and sarcasm aimed at those unable to reply now seems to float the politicians boat.

Chimp's tea party? The bouncer on the Chimp's cage wouldn't let the likes of our ill bred childish MPs through the bars lest they contaminated the Chimps.

Cameron will persist in his drive to block the appointment of Juncker, he has to now he's opened his mouth, but he'll get nowhere if the nest of vipers in Brussels want him. Give us a pre election referendum to pull out and cancel all monetary payments to the EU and he'd likely be voted back in an instant.

It's strange how the 'thickos', the 'plebs' and the 'computer illiterate' can see the solution to the problem while the literate, elite bright young (and old) men fluff around the edges mending everything except the bit that's broken...

I personally think it's because the problem is; the so called literate, elite bright young (and old) men.

I agree with you all the way. Like you I cannot understand why they are allowed to carry on in this utterly childish way. I timed them last Wednesday. after a burst of even louder - Yah boo, sucks to you uproar - The speaker warned them severely against further outbursts. I noted he was I fact smiling at the time. It took a mere 30 seconds for the childishness to start again and after 45 seconds was back to normal. (Normal for our parliamentary chosen that is) Surely he would only have to name one or two to bring the rest to heel.

What beats me is they know the cameras are on and the nation is watching (as are other nations) if this is the way they behave in this situation what are they like at other times? The lines between government and opposition are two sword lengths apart. Pillow fighting would be more the mark of today's incumbents.

Well for whatever time I've got left, I'll be silly and dense, and continue voting UKIP. I'd vote Raving Monster Loony party but they are already in the majority, as PMQ's show all too clearly

I'll be as daft as you when it comes to casting my vote for UKIP, but for the £70K/year + all they can fiddle surely it wouldn't be too much to expect serious debate even if it was just once a week.
