OK so next should be Brown then they can ask why the investigation into Madeleine McCanns disappearance was such a farce!

Does anybody know if this imploding of the Labour party will affect Clarence? I have been trying to work out what his postion will be if Gordon Brown is kicked out, as looks increasingly likely.

Big news in Australia re the UK government. Get the feeling that GB is not all that well thought of over here. Who will take his place if he resigns? Will they look at the petition? Interesting days ahead for sure.

Well theres the problem, who will take over if he goes? Because I dont think they is one MP left who hasnt been fiddling expenses and has come out of this lot squeaky clean. Maybe I'll apply for the job Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is to leave the Cabinet in the wake of the scandal over MPs' expenses 849426

I think Clarence was a Blair man. I think that's why he joined the Mc's in the first place, it was just after GB took over and politicians always like their own people around them. I think CM was going to be pushed so he jumped first into the arms of the Mc's. Remember he tried to get a meeting with GB and the Mc's and they got some sort of curt ' yes someone will see them' reply. IMO, the Maddie case was a stepping stone for him to get some profile and consider his options.

I'd like to know who is paying him. It cant be Kennedy anymore so where is the money coming from seeing as the fund is short of funds? I cant believe they have enough in that fund to pay Clarry and all the lawyers needed in Portugal plus pay Bill and Ben the flowerpot men.

I think the same as you StGerald. Their backers were always happy for the press to publish their support of the Mccanns. Now things have gone very quiet and the McCanns seem keen to do interviews and seek money via publicity.
I suspect it's not just the general public who gave their money to the Fund who have looked at what is going on and decided to withdraw their support.

The pope had them taken off from the Vatican website as soon as they became suspects so I'm sure others took a leaf out.

Dr. Crippen - did he do it?

Martin Brunt June 02, 2009 11:13 AM

Take your pick...Devil's advocate, patron saint of lost causes or defender of the indefensible.

Some see lawyer Giovanni Di Stefano as all three and he probably wouldn't disagree with most of that.

After defending Saddam Hussein (dead), Serbian warlord Arkan (dead) and wicked landlord Nicholas van Hoogstraten (still alive), he has now taken on what could be his greatest challenge.

He's trying to persuade Justice Secretary Jack Straw to give a posthumous pardon to Dr. Crippen who was hanged in 1910 for poisoning his wife. Yes, it was a crime in those days.

The pardon request is based on recent DNA evidence which suggests the body in the cellar was not that of a woman, but a man.

That's Crippen's cellar, of course, not Straw's.

The pardon may be easier than the inevitable next move...persuading Madame Tussauds to remove Crippen's wax dummy from the Chamber of Horrors will be the real achievement.

They could always replace it with Jacqui Smith's.
