Re: FW: Smith Family
This is the Irish family that saw a man transporting a child on the night in question and returned to Portugal to collaborate with the investigation. Martin Smith contacted our department stating that after having observed the McCann family on TV alighting from the plane, he believes that the person he saw carrying the child that night was Gerry McCann. For your information.

Telephone: *********
Locale: Portugal/Out of country
Origin: Mr. Martin Smith –Ireland
Text: Reported that he passed a male carrying a child in Praia da Luz the night Maddie went missing. Went and made a statement to Portugal police in Portimao on 26th of May and returned to the U.K. Is saying that after seeing McCANNS on the news on 9th of September when they returned to the U.K. He has not slept and is worried sick. He states he was watching the 10 pm news on BBC and saw the McCANNS getting off the plane and coming down the steps. He states it was like watching an action replay of the night he saw the male carrying the child back in Portugal. He states the way Gerry was carrying his twin triggered something in his head. It was exactly the same way and look of the other male seen the night Maddy went missing. He also watched ITV news and SKY news and inferred it looked like the same person both times carrying the children. Is asking a member of the OP Task Force to ring him back. He was with a group of 9 family and friends the night he saw the male in Portugal. He sounded quite shaken and worried whilst speaking to me.

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
Smith sighting also i believe in. How do u explain the time- alarm time and sighting?
Thanks to other thread by textusa , this guy Salcedo says that he only found the grandmom alone at 10.20-10.30. Maybe the alarm was @ 10.15pm ( and not at 10pm as T9 want us to believe) ,so that GM has time to return after smith sighting.
Now if this smith sighting is true, my guess is that a car( driven by a unknown T10) carried back GM and child back to 5A- why car? it would be dangerous for him to be seen going "towards" the apartment. So also there must have been minimum 1 lookout (to give all clear) at time when GM exited the car to his apartment. My hunch is mobile/s(no Macanns mobiles were used) was/were used to give all clear.....
Anyway ,it would have been helpful- what this salcedo was doing/his location just before he noticed the grandmom?

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
That is what I believe in for a long time. That the actual alarm was raised more towards 10.30 than 10.00. No one can give us the exact times of what happened that night. The only trustfull information we can rely on are the witness statements outside the McCann circle. The witness statements of the waiters in the ocean club and of course the witness statement of mrs Fenn who overheard the noise at 10.30. IMO the timeline of the McCanns was ment to give Gerry an alibi for the time he was seen by Smith

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
Hi Beebotje ,
where do you think was the body? me thinks it was far away from PDL on 3rd (in a freezer/fridge- if freezer was not big enough, trays removed from fridge and inner freezer door kept open to lower temperature , assuming a single door fridge). The guys who transported body were ruthless/efficient british expats- no Portuguese would have guts to kill a Policeman's dog.
Having read Textusa's post -opp. of dead is alive- she says smith sighting was 500m from 5a. Hmmmmm... a brisk walk of 12 minutes to return back using another road, if car was not used.... a big risk even while going towards "smith sighting"- imagine meeting someone known again (Jez) near 5a...

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
I believe Madeleine died at May 2nd or 3rd.
The abduction story was carefully planned but in a hurry, otherwise they wouldn't have made so many mistakes. If the man in the Smith sighting is really Gerry (and I believe it is) it is most likely Madeleine died late in the afternoon or early in the evening of May 3, because if they had more time they would have arranged proper help with the contacts they had and wouldn't risk wandering the streets with the body of Madeleine. I believe that the first hiding place is in the vincinity of the church which is near the place of the Smith sighting.
I always thought it strange that Gerry asked for a priest the night Madeleine disappeared. After the disappearence the McCanns got the keys of the church (maybe 2nd hidingplace for a short time?)

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
But how and why did all of the Tapas doctors agree to the cover up ?

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
If we knew that, we would have solved the crime, wouldn't we? Can they be sharing a secret we don't know of? To use the words of David Payne: "We have a pact..."
For all I know is, that doctors tend to cover up malpractises of collegues. Happens all the time. For a lot of reasons. Why not covering up an accidental death?
A lot was at stake: losing your good name, Gerrys new and important job, the twins (in order of importance for the McC's of course)

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
Possibly because of blackmail?
If you tell on me i will tell on you. I go down i am taking you with me and you will lose everything friends, family the kids, your job.
Whatever the dirty secret is that is holding them togeather it must be a doozy. if it was drugs or booze thats no real big deal, it wouldn't result in jail time unless they were dealing large amounts.
Swinging also wouldn't be a jailable offence, it wouldn't do their reputations any good but looking at their reps now it would make no difference so, it would have to be something that would result in major jail time.
Sedating their kids whilst they went on the lash could result in child abuse charges and possibly some jail time. it would cost them their jobs as doctors as well. but whatever it was madeleines body had to totally vanish so that no autopsy could be performed. the question is why?
Simple child abuse would not mean the others would keep quiet about it, after all they wouldn't be the one beating the child so i wouldn't think it was that so that leads to one thing
Paedophilia springs to mind simply because if they knew that xxx was molesting kids and they did nothing and allowed that person access to their own kids that makes them just as guilty.
It has to be something that involves all of them either as active participants or knowing that it is happening and doing nothing which would make them an accessory to the fact.

Re: How sure can one be // the smith sighting
I can't agree more with you Hobnob. I keep thinking about the statement of that social worker who recognised David Payne in connection with peadophilia. And of course the Gaspar statements which implicated Gerry knew about it and possible was into it. I believe that Madeleine accidentally died but the body had to disappear. What would have happened if sexual abuse was discovered? Clearly a strong enough reason to make the body disappear. That worries me the most. At the time that we heard about the Gaspar statements I thought; well, this is it. Police will thoroughly investigate this kind of serious accusations. But then we never heard from it anymore.
