A quiet goodbye
A quiet goodbye for the two British children killed by their mother in Lloret de Mar
Daniel and Rebecca were laid to rest in the municipal cemetery on Tuesday
Some 40 people turned out in Lloret de Mar in Girona on Tuesday for the funerals of the two British children who were killed in a hotel room in the town by their mother, Lianne Smith, on May 18. She has told the authorities that she feared the children would be taken away from her, after her husband, Martin Anthony Smith, a wanted paedophile, was extradited back to the U.K.
It was an intimate and emotional ceremony held in the cemetery chapel and attended by representatives from the local Town Hall, the regional Generalitat, and the British Consulate.
The bodies of the two children are now at peace in a niche of the municipal cemetery.
The costs of the day were met by the local Town Hall after no family member came forward to claim the bodies of 11 month old Daniel and five year old Rebecca.
The mother Lianne, remains in prison in Girona.
A statement from the Town Hall said that its priority was ‘always to give the children a decent funeral, in the strictest privacy and with all the respect and sadness that the death of two young infants deserves’.

Re: A quiet goodbye
Sad, sad sad... should never have happened, but it did! A terrible reflection of the world we live in, desperation, that no one knows about? Tragic! Sleep tight little ones, you must be in a better place now? (I hope so)

Re: A quiet goodbye
I cant understand why they werent brought home.
To have just 3 people at the burial is heartbreaking.
The spanish people have such dignity and passion, holding a minutes silence for 2 children they didnt even know, their marvelous.
