Wife-Killing Paedophile Jailed For 19 Years

A pensioner who bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer because he did not want her to find out he was a paedophile, has been sentenced to life in jail, with a minimum term of 19 years.

Geoffrey Norton, 67, was arrested in December last year over an allegation he had sexually assaulted a young girl.

Weeks later he killed wife Janet, 64, at their log cabin-style home at a caravan park in Preesall, Lancashire.

Norton reportedly could not face confessing his crime to his wife and attacked her while she slept.

He had been released on police bail in December pending further inquiries but it is understood he committed the murder shortly before detectives intended to re-arrest him.

This was a brutal murder of an innocent woman who had done nothing to deserve this. It was you, not she, who had committed shameful criminal acts.

Sentencing judge, Mr Justice MacDuff

Mrs Norton was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and later transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where she died.

Norton, formerly of Delph, Oldham, was charged with her murder, the child sex offence and a string of other sexual assaults against another child victim dating back to the 1970s.

Sentencing at Preston Crown Court, Mr Justice MacDuff told him: "This was a brutal murder of an innocent woman who had done nothing to deserve this.

"It was you, not she, who had committed shameful criminal acts."

I think she was the women who was going to inform them police off his evil crimes but he murdered her before she could do that.
