THE DOMINO EFFECT IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Libya: Rebels Claim Victory In Zawiyah Share Comments
Rebels have claimed victory in the western Libyan city of Zawiyah following clashes with Pro-Gaddafi troops, according to reports.
Sky News has witnessed fierce fighting on Saturday morning in the area, 30 miles west of the capital city - Tripoli.
Special correspondent Alex Crawford has seen ongoing battles where people have been forced to shelter in mosques.
"There is a lot of shelling by tanks and machine guns being used on the streets outside," Crawford said.
"At least two of the attacking tanks have been destroyed and some troops have been captured.
Sky’s Dominic Waghorn: Explosions Near Benghazi
"There is an awful lot of fighting outside the mosque.
"There are too many injuries for the doctors to cope with and there are reports that a hospital has been besieged," she added.
Earlier, there were reports that Pro-Gaddafi loyalists had broken the rebels' defences.
The bloodshed has signalled an escalation in efforts by both sides to break the deadlock that has gripped Libya's 18-day upheaval, which has lasted longer than the Egyptian revolt that has inspired a wave of protests across the region

I think we should all be worried about what is happening in the Middle East . All these Countries almost simultaneously fighting for Democracy. The result is a mass migration of Citizens, numerous Refugee Camps and of course the threat to the life blood of the Woirld, the supply of Oil and the
death and injury of so many people. Britain could not accommodate any more Refugees yet we are the only Country really getting involved. Where will
it all end?

Hi Badboy,
I havn"t had the News on for a while, if that"s the case expect more bloodshed, it really is serious for the rest of the World, not just the Middle East.
Apparently Yemen is also under attack and if Saudi Arabia is the next Country to have an uprising, expect the American Troops to be called in to
protect the Oil. Sometimes I think this has all been planned , where are the Rebels getting all their Weapons? Not by invading an Armoury that"s for sure.

With everyone fleeing from their Homes, although the International Aid Agencies are supplying Tents and limited supplies of Food, where will all this end?
There are more dispossessed Countries now and who is to say that Law and Order will prevail , look what happened in Iraq!!!

Re: THE DOMINO EFFECT IN THE MIDDLE EAST
There was a comedian on Radio 4 this morning talking about 'the domino effect.' He started by saying that dominoes falling down was just one game to play and imagined leaders sitting at tables playing with blocks with dots on and lining up the exact numbers of people on both sides of borders. It was quite funny.

The repercussions here are enormous. Even if these Countries claim they will have a Government for the People with their new found Democracy, will this happen? Who is going to trust the Banks and Financial Watchdogs who allowed Gaddafi to store his Fortune????? The governments who turned a blind
eye? The British Government in particular is now under attack for allowing the release of that Guy who was dying but is still alive after over a Year.?
What reward did the Government get for that I wonder.

I think we'll see the leaders installed that Obama et al want installed. The Muslim Brotherhood, though? I cannot imagine such a group establishing democracy as we know it.
Re: THE DOMINO EFFECT IN THE MIDDLE EAST
The rebellion has spread to Saudi Arabia.
There is a protest March planned for next Friday but the Saudi Government has issued a no marching ban and will mobilise the troops to deal with any
revolt. I"m becoming convinced that this Middle East uprising was planned , not spontaneous, and think it could be about Religion rather than Politics.
Did you know there is a special training school in Britain where the Libyan Police Force are trained to deal with public unrest.?
Did you know than Britain, France, Russia, Germany and the U.S.A. sell arms to Libya?
Apparently at the moment Gaddafi has regained the strategic areas the Rebels took over but the picture is very muddled.
Where will all this end? Most importantly, what will be the cost in human lives?

Hi Badboy
It looks as if the Revolt in Libya will not be won by the Rebels . Apparently there are many Libyans who want Gaddafi to stay in Office and his Army
has remained loyal, or too terrified to break away.

Thanks Carmen, can you imagine the repercussions if the rebels fail???? They will be rounded up, tortured and hanged in public because I think it
unlikely if push comes to shove that the United Nations or anyone else will intervene.

Hi Panda - it doesn't really bear thinking about. The whole situation in Libya is becoming very confused:
6:58pm
Al Jazeera is hearing reports that despite earlier rumours the Arab League will not call for a no-fly zone but instead will ask the UN Security Council to discuss the issue.
According to reports, the League could not get a unanimous vote which is required under article six of the Arab League constitution which states that when a member country is threatened by an Arab League proposal - the vote must be unanimous.
6:08pm
The Arab League has called on the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone on Libya, Egyptian state television reported, a decision that would give a regional seal of approval that NATO has said is needed for any military action.
The state television also said the Arab League had decided to open channels of communication with a Libyan rebel council based in Benghazi. The League said the council represented the Libyan people, the channel reported.
League officials say the body has already been in touch with the rebels about the situation on the ground in Libya.

Al Jazeera employee killed in Libya
Cameraman Ali Hassan Al Jaber was returning to eastern city of Benghazi from filing report when he was shot and killed.

An Al Jazeera cameraman has been killed in what appears to have been an ambush near the rebel-held city of Benghazi in eastern Libya.
Ali Hassan Al Jaber was returning to Benghazi from a nearby town after filing a report from an opposition protest when unknown fighters opened fire on a car he and his colleagues were travelling in.
Two people including Al Jaber were shot. Al Jaber was rushed to hospital, but did not survive.
Wadah Khanfar, the director-general of Al Jazeera, says the network "will not remain silent" and will pursue those behind the ambush through legal channels.
He says that the killing came after "an unprecedented campaign" against the network by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Re: THE DOMINO EFFECT IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Another Rebel held territory, Brega has been "cleansed" by Gaddafi and sadly it looks as though he is going to stamp out this Revolt and will then
wreak his revenge. The Arab League have agreed a no fly zone which will be put to the U.N. but have warned any Countries in the Western World
not to get involved.
